JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

The Monitor is responsible for monitoring the activities of clients of the shelter/center to ensure compliance with program rules, policies, and expectations. The monitor is also responsible for ensuring the safety of clients and the security and sanitation of the program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Secures the facility including periodically walking the facility and making written and incident reports as needed.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting suspected neglect and/or abuse to supervisor.
  • Performs periodic maintenance and janitorial duties.
  • Monitors clients to ensure that are performing daily tasks.
  • Oversees front desk operations including answering phones, completing phone intakes, monitoring front door, and handling crisis intervention.
  • Communicates with case management and clinical team about violations and client non-compliance for handling by designated staff.
  • Inputting data to computer systems.
  • Supervise client activities and respond to all client questions and concerns.
  • Coordinate bed assignments, smoke breaks and other daily routines
  • Address any behavior issues that create disharmony, criminal or otherwise nonproductive behavior.
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflict, including dealing with un-cooperative clients.
  • Ability to work a regular schedule provided by your direct supervisor.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, with or without reasonable accommodation, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a background check.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma (or GED/High School Equivalence Certificate).


EXPERIENCE

  • 6 months in the security field or 6 months working with the target population, or a combination of both totaling 6 months of experience.


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of the local community and the various services provided within the community that can be helpful for clients.
  • Basic knowledge of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996).


TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  • Basic computer and Microsoft operating system navigation, including Outlook, Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Basic Database entry and use.


SKILLS and ABILITIES.

  • Strong written and verbal communication to understand and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to read and write in the English language to log data and complete forms.
  • Ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks, and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to problem solve and make good decisions.
  • Ability to interpret data, be detail oriented, accurate, analytical, and organized.


INTERPERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Client- focused, prompt, collaborative/team player, regular attendance, adaptable, leader, communicator, compassionate, and conflict resolution/mediation.

 
Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 1 year of experience working in the field of homelessness or other social support services.
  • Valid California driver’s license, acceptable proof of automobile insurance, and/or reliable mode of transportation.
  • Knowledge and experience navigating and logging data into a Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
