Hollywood Veteran’s Center

A sober–living residential facility for Veterans of OIF/OEF who suffer from severe levels of difficulty adjusting to civilian life. The goal is to help Veterans obtain permanent housing, financial security, and a personal support system through transitional housing, case management, and financial counseling.

HVC clinical treatment program have been serving veteran men since 2010. Meaning that veterans checking into the center commit to treatment for mental health and/or substance abuse issues. The program consists of a total of 48 beds, with 6 (2-men) rooms, and 36 single rooms. For the most part, we serve Iraqi, Afghanistan, and Operation New Dawn veterans. Services provided by HVC are aimed at helping residents get back on their feet. Specifically, we help veterans with the main goal of attaining permanent housing, but also work on goals such as employment, education, and family reunification.


The Monitor is responsible for monitoring the activities of clients of the shelter/center to ensure compliance with program rules, policies, and expectations. The monitor is also responsible for ensuring the safety of clients and the security and sanitation of the program.

The monitor division is part of the clinical treatment at HVC, which requires monitors to maintain continuous communications and reporting regarding resident program activities and/or behavior.


  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of participants
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed
  • Answer telephone and take messages for clients and staff
  • Ensure client compliance with program policies and procedures
  • Dispense medication and document information for various logs
  • Call police or fire department in cases of emergency: such as fire or presence of unauthorized clients/persons
  • Some basic maintenance or janitorial duties as needed
  • Must watch, respond, and report suspicious or unusual activity to the appropriate authorities; investigate alarms or noises and remove trespassers from the facility/property
  • Patrol and secure premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates, etc.
  • Ensure all interactions are provided through trauma-informed care approach
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, participants, visitors, guest and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises
  • Responsible to complete written reports and incidents logs of daily activities and irregularities, such as: unusual occurrences, equipment or property damage, theft, and presence of unauthorized persons
  • Ensures the ongoing safety of clients and immediately reports and addresses any signs of harassment or other bullying or conflict issues
  • Inputting required program data on HMIS
  • Other duties as required and is subject to change at any time



  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including but not limited to morning, swing, and night shifts (may include weekends and holidays)


  • High school diploma (or GED/High School Equivalence Certificate)


  • 6 months in the security field or 6 months working with the target population, or a combination of both totaling 6 months of experience. (Coursework or a formal degree or certification in Social services or related discipline can be combined with relevant experience to meet the time requirement)
  • If a recovering alcohol and/or drug user, you must have at least 1 year of continuous sobriety


  • Knowledge of veteran population demographics, challenges, strengths, and services available
  • Knowledge of the local community and the various services provided within the community that can be helpful for clients


  • Basic computer and Microsoft operating system navigation, including Outlook, Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Basic Database entry and use


  • Good interpersonal skills including relationship building
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work effectively with clients who have experienced trauma
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, with or without reasonable accommodation, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards


  • Have a client centered approach to customer services for the disadvantaged
  • Prompt, collaborative/team player, adaptable, communicator, organized, consistent, and compassionate
  • Respectful methods for reminding clients about expectations and rules without engaging in argumentative behavior


  • 1 year of experience working in fields of mental health, substance abuse treatment, homelessness and/or veteran population
  • U.S. Veteran or experience working with veterans
  • Knowledge and experience navigating and logging data into a Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)
  • Valid CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) Certification
  • Valid First Aid Certification
  • Valid Food Handlers Card
