Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director, the LVN provides professional standard nursing services for a residential substance use disorder treatment program. As a patient advocate, the LVN will also provide physical and psycho-social support to patients.    

  • Provides nursing services including: monitoring of medications, monitoring vitals, direct communication with nursing and with the physicians for referrals to other providers and community health resources, health instruction to patients, and instruction and in-servicing to counseling line staff including training on medication dispensing
  • Oversees the smooth progression of daily patient schedules
  • Documents patient’s current medication list, including name(s) of medications, dosages, frequency, duration and start date. Monitors medication and treatment as prescribed by the Medical Director
  • Accountable for own errors in the monitoring of medications and treatment, and will be subject to established disciplinary measures in this regard
  • Organizes orientation, training, growth and development of line staff
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the care given by interdisciplinary care team and identifies problems making timely recommendations for their solution
  • Attends treatment and staff meetings and participates in quality improvement projects
  • Other tasks as assigned


  • Current, valid California Licensed Vocational Nurse
  • Valid Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Card (CPR)
  • Excellent communication skills at level necessary for taking patients’ medical histories, understanding provider and supervisor instructions, and for accurately documenting patients’ medical information
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact. Intermediate to advanced computing and phone skills
  • Working knowledge of “Universal Precautions” and demonstrated professionalism at all times
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA

Additional Requirements:

  • Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with substance use disorder populations
  • Experience working in field of recovery
  • Ability to develop relationship with adult clients
  • Demonstration of emotional maturity and stability
  • Knowledge of the agency's target populations and evidence-based treatment services
