Job Developer (Training to Work)

Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Responsibilities:

  • Identify career pathways in demand sectors
  • Establish and maintain relationships with educational and vocational training centers
  • Assist participants with enrollment process for education and training
  • Provide employment assistants, training and coaching for all participants
  • Assesses potential participants for level of ability and readiness for work as well as physical and mental capabilities
  • Develops support systems to meet participant needs by identifying and coordinating available services needed to maintain independent living, self-sufficiency and family stabilization
  • Provides job readiness skills training in areas of resume preparation, interviewing and job search techniques & provides career counseling and job coaching; coordinates job skills training with participant employment plans
  • Arrange interviews with employers and works with participants on job retention issues
  • Coordinates with Local and private employment resources to assure participant access
  • Weekly case conferencing
  • Monthly case file audits
  • Provides crises intervention as needed for participants
  • Develop inter-agency relationships to enhance the referral process

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:

  • 1-3 years experience working as a job developer and/or in case management services (preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Effective written and oral communications skills

Other Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable and able to work with the re-entry (ex-offender) population
  • Experience with HMIS or a database platform
  • Knowledge of federally funded mainstream programs
  • Valid California driver's license, dependable transportation, and adequate vehicle insurance
