Intake Worker - Pomona Hope for Homes Services Center

Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation.   • Greets clients, guests and visitors; notifies appropriate employee and maintains needed logs and other paperwork
  • Completes necessary intakes to determine program eligibility
  • Guides and directs clients to the necessary areas of the shelter and Centralized Services Center for programs and services
  • Assigns clients to the necessary programs staff
  • Responsible for keeping log in records of incoming clients and data input into the HMIS system
  • Prepares and generates daily reports; analyses data and prepares special reports as needed
  • Documents and maintain all case files in physical files, HMIS or other identified databases  
  • Other duties as assigned



  • High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent work experience
  • 18 years of age or older


  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with intake
  • Training in and working knowledge of HMIS
  • Proven ability to interact positively with diverse groups of client population with varying education and economic backgrounds
  • Provides a social and emotional culture that supports and builds teamwork through a solution oriented approach; works constructively through any site conflicts

Special  Skills Required to Perform this Position:

  • Proven familiarity with homelessness and related issues a plus
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, poverty, and federally funded mainstream programs such as General Relief, Social Security Disability
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Valid California driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation

Preferred Skills for this Position:

  • HMIS database experience strongly preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Formerly homeless Pomona residents preferred
