Intake Specialist - (Pathways to Home/ SLAWC)

About Us:

Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Pathways to Home is a Year-Round Shelter serving the homeless population in Los Angeles and South Los Angeles. This program provides temporary shelter, onsite case management, a computer center, and permanent housing referrals.

Responsibilities:

The Intake Specialist:

  • Responsible for understanding how to provide lead with accurate bed accountability and contractual bench mark updates through active bed management
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to participants through maintaining professionalism and positive attitude while communicating with participants and outside agencies
  • Responsible for completing accurate intake assessments and intake relaying programmatic expectations to incoming participants
  • Maintain compliance to HIPPA, crisis intervention techniques, documentation protocols, and file logistics
  • Maintain an ethical standard of care though participant first model and continuing education of HIPPA applications
  • Proficiency in incident reporting, documentation standards, de-escalation, intersection with other departments
  • Performing clerical duties such as filing, copies, file breakdown, and file management
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of training in and working knowledge of HIMlS
  • Proven ability to interact positively with diverse groups of client population with varying education and economic backgrounds

Preferred Skills for this Position:

  • 1 year in human services profession, with work in population specific arenas (such as homelessness, drug and alcohol treatment, mental health, trauma)
  • Database experience
  • Computer literate
  • Typing 30 words per minute
