This position will be working at Pathways to Home, which is the largest homeless shelter in Los Angeles, providing a diverse group of services. Comprehensive Case Management Services, Affordable Housing Assistance, Transitional Housing Programs, Permanent Housing Placements, JWCH Mobile Clinic, Department of Health Services, USC-HIV Study/Prevention.


  • Designs high-quality original material for in-class instruction, including facilitator guides, PowerPoint slides, handouts and instructions, class activities, forms, and other required materials


  • Consults with SMEs and the Learning & Development team to gather and verify information, identify needs, determine learning objectives, identify appropriate delivery methods, draft new training content, and review and update existing training, all with a primary emphasis on development of employee skills to improve the quality of client interactions and client outcomes


  • Develops knowledge checks, assessment questions including situational or scenario based questions, and other training evaluations to assess participant feedback, learner experience, retention and application of knowledge, and accomplishment of learning objectives


  • Ensures style and tone of materials is upbeat and engaging to audiences with a broad range of experiences, cultures, and educational background


  • Create and update project plans for assigned projects and ensure meeting of project milestones


  • Prefer certificate or degree in Instructional Design
  • Minimum three years’ experience designing materials in a role primarily focused on instructional design for instructor-led training
  • Demonstrated experience developing highly-effective, creative, and engaging instructor-led training experiences
  • Helpful to have experience designing and creating self-directed e-learning courses and converting existing in-class training materials to e-learning
  • Strong knowledge of the instructional design process and principles, including adult learning theory, assessment, analysis, instructional strategies, and tactics
  • English grammar, punctuation, and mechanics
  • Very strong skills with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Outlook and Excel
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret client needs
  • Comfort working efficiently and on-schedule on multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences (verbal and written)
  • Copyediting content for errors, style, accuracy, and meaning
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse, cross-functional team across multiple sites
  • Effective interpersonal, negotiation, and diplomacy skills

Preferred Skills for this Position:

  • Proven familiarity with homeless services and related issues is a major plus
  • Experience with PDF creation/editing software is desirable
  • Knowledge in eLearning course authoring is desirable
  • Experience with LMS functionality is helpful
