HMIS Specialist - (SSVF)

SSVF promotes housing stability to homeless or at–risk–of–becoming homeless Veterans and their families. The goal of the SSVF program is to provide clients with the skills necessary to maintain long term, independent living. SSVF is a short-term crisis intervention program, with services to include case management, housing and financial counseling, and assistance in obtaining benefits and services. For individual Veterans and those with dependents.


The SSVF HMIS Specialist is responsible for daily operations of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) in accordance with VOALA/VA requirements. The SSVF HMIS Specialist duties are summarized as:

  • Enters, verifies, and corrects participant information into a centralized database, Clarity HMIS
  • Conducts regular audits to assure accuracy of data in Clarity HMIS system
  • Conducts analysis of SSVF operational performance
  • Facilitates the maintenance and implementation of Clarity HMIS by tracking at risk or homeless veteran households in support of the case management team
  • Exports Clarity HMIS data and upload to VA repository monthly
  • Provides orientation and training of new HMIS users including documentation and re-training as necessary
  • Performs Data Quality checks in Clarity HMIS and VA Repository and coach individual users as needed
  • Problem solves and communicates effectively with HMIS provider and SSVF team
  • Supports any technical and reporting issues for SSVF-LA as needed
  • Responds to managers’ request for program performance stats by generating unique reports on excel
  • Assists with program funder audits and monitoring visits
  • Occasionally assist with special events and public functions
  • Attend HMIS and CQI meetings and pass information to Program and Resource Managers
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must have a team/customer oriented attitude
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office 2007 or later, and internet usage.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel
  • Dependable, task driven, and motivated

Preferred for this Position:

  • U.S. Veteran strongly preferred
  • Familiarity or experience with an online database; 1 year HMIS Adsystech or Clarity experience preferred
  • Experience working with Veterans, people in recovery, and/or homeless individuals preferred
