HMIS Specialist - Pomona Hope for Homes Services Center

Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Responsibilities:

  • Verifies, corrects and enters participant information into centralized database (HMIS); conducts regular monitoring/audits to assure accuracy of data
  • Monitors HMIS reports to assure consistency with other hard copy records and logs
  • Runs regular progress reports; creates customized reports to support shelter management and to provided other needed information
  • Coordinates with Case Managers and Intake staff to ensure HMIS intake requirements are met
  • Trains staff on HMIS and answers questions relating to the system
  • Oversees the privacy/confidentiality notification processes to meet regulatory guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field or equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 – 2 years of experience using HMIS
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office suite as well as Internet proficiency required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Ability to develop relationships with families as well as a variety of service stakeholders (schools, health and public benefit agencies.)
  • Provides a social and emotional culture that supports and builds teamwork through a solution oriented approach; works constructively through any site conflicts

Special  Skills Required to Perform this Position:

  • At least 2 years of experience working with homeless individuals and homeless families
  • Proven familiarity with homelessness and related issues a plus
  • Valid California driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, poverty, and federally funded mainstream programs such as General Relief, Social Security Disability
  • Valid California driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation

Preferred Skills for this Position:

  • 1 - 2 years' experience working with homeless families/individuals or people in recovery
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
