HMIS Specialist - (Office of Diversion and Re-Entry, LA)

Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. The responsibilities are summarized as:

  • Verifies, corrects and enters participant information into centralized database; conducts regular audits to assure accuracy of data
  • Monitors database (HMIS) and (CHAMP) reports to assure consistency with other hard copy records and logs
  • Runs regular progress reports; creates customized reports to support shelter management and to provided other needed information
  • Coordinates with Case Managers and Intake staff to ensure HMIS intake requirements are met
  • Trains staff on database (HMIS) and (CHAMP) and answers questions relating to the system
  • Oversees the privacy/confidentiality notification processes to meet regulatory guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 1 - 2  years of experience using HMIS and CHAMP
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office suite as well as Internet proficiency required

Additional Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience working with re-entry population, individuals experiencing homelessness, and/or special needs populations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word and Excel as well as Internet use
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Valid California driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation
  • Effective written and oral communications skills
