HMIS Specialist - (Bridge Housing for Women)

We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Responsibilities:

The HMIS Specialist:

  • Completes intake and assessments on new participants
  • Verifies, corrects and enters participant information into centralized database; conducts regular audits to assure accuracy of data
  • Monitors HMIS reports to assure consistency with other hard copy records and logs
  • Runs regular progress reports; creates customized reports to support shelter management and to provided other needed information
  • Coordinates with Case Managers and Intake staff to ensure HMIS intake requirements are met
  • Trains staff on HMIS and answers questions relating to the system
  • Oversees the privacy/confidentiality notification processes to meet regulatory guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 - 2  years of experience using HMIS or similar database system
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office suite as well as Internet proficiency
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail is a must

  • Must exhibit respectful methods for reminding residents about expectations and rules without engaging in argumentative behavior
  • Excellent customer service skills a must
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to exercise patience, understanding, creativity, and flexibility
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflict, dealing with un-cooperative clients
  • Ability to work a regular schedule provided by your direct supervisor

Preferred Skills for this Position:

  • Valid California driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
