18th Street Kitchen supports various year-round emergency shelters serving homeless individuals in the South Los Angeles area.   Those that are served are provided temporary shelter as well as case management services to assist with job search, medical needs, permanent housing and other supportive services.  18th Street Kitchen is dedicated to transforming lives one story at a time.


The purpose of this role is to transports individual program participants to and from various locations for various events, meetings, and appointments. The Driver is also responsible for care and maintenance of the VOALA vehicle by maintaining the appearance and performance through regular washes, cleaning interior and exterior, and taking vehicle for routine maintenance and repairs.


  • Transports individual program participants to and from various locations such as human service and community provider locations, work sites and medical facilities.
  • Responsible for care and maintenance of the VOALA vehicle, washes and cleans interior and exterior, and takes vehicle for routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintains Vehicle maintenance log journal, trip records, and mileage and gasoline usage records.
  • Assists passengers in securing wheelchairs, car seats and other mobility devices.
  • May perform facility maintenance, janitorial, and/or other duties as required.



  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Valid California driver’s license, acceptable proof of automobile insurance, and/or reliable mode of transportation
  • Must have a clean driving record to be insurable by VOALA insurance
  • Must be able to perform physical activities
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis without assistance
  • Bending and sitting continually


  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience


  • Experienced and a dependable driver


  • Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English
  • Basic knowledge on the operation of a vehicle of various sizes, i.e. sedan, truck, van, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of California Driving/DMV Laws


  • Must be able to drive or operate a commercial vehicle such as a Van


  • Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English
  • Ability to provide a social and emotional culture that supports and builds teamwork through a solution-oriented approach
  • Ability to work constructively through any site conflicts
  • Possess the ability to take direction and enjoy working both independently and autonomously when necessary
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills as well as the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once with attention to detail; and adapt to change as needed
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a genuine desire to model and facilitate productive communication in the workplace


  • Must be professional and sociable with clients
  • Client- focused, dependable, collaborative, prompt, positive mindset, flexible, and organized


  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal)
  • Catering and/or food delivery experience
