Database Specialist (HMIS)- SSVF - LA

Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. The SSVF Database Specialist maintains data for veterans with families that have accessed the program. The following duties may be handled in conjunction with Veteran's Administration staff, when applicable.

Responsibilities:

The SSVF Database Specialist:

  • Verifies, corrects and enters participant information into centralized database; conducts regular audits to assure accuracy of data
  • Monitors database (HMIS) reports to assure consistency with other hardcopy records and logs
  • Runs regular progress reports; creates customized reports to support shelter management and to provided other needed information
  • Coordinates with Case Managers and Intake staff to ensure HMIS intake requirements are met
  • Trains staff on database (HMIS) and answers questions relating to the system
  • Oversees the privacy/confidentiality notification processes to meet regulatory guidelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 1 - 2  years of experience using HMIS
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office suite as well as Internet proficiency required
  • Ability to develop relationships with families as well as a wide variety of stakeholders (schools, health, and public benefit agencies)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Additional Requirements:

  • 1 - 2 years experience working with veterans, people in recovery and/or homelessness individuals
  • Valid California driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation
  • U.S. Veteran strongly preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
