Responsibilities:

  • Lead and maintain VOALA’s compensation system ensuring internal equity and external competitiveness, areas which include but is not limited to parity compensation systems; grading/leveling systems; management of minimum wage changes and resulting compression; job description systems, evaluation and policies; promotion and transfer policy oversight, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and in alignment with VOALA’s corporate culture and values.  At least annually, complete a full compensation analysis with position parity recommendations
  • Analyze compensation trends affecting pay and compensation, policies, government regulations, and prevailing wage rates to ensure compensation program compliance
  • Serves in consultative capacity to executives on compensation issues and practices
  • Frequently monitor parity compensation structures and advise on leveling both at the system as well as individual levels throughout the year
  • Lead employee administration of benefit programs including design, evaluation, selection, and ongoing management of employee insurance plans (health, life, disability), pension and retirement plans, leave of absence program, Worker’s Compensation, and VOALA wellness program, ensuring annual participation targets are met and that programs are current, competitive, and in compliance with legal requirements
  • Works closely with CFO on administration and selection of all employee insurance programs, pension, and retirement programs
  • Leads and develops the Compensation, Benefits. and HRIS Team, including coordinating and supervising work activities to ensure goals and deadlines are met
  • Analyzes complex data and create reports for compensation, benefits monitoring, to identify potential causes of staffing problems (including turnover) in order to develop recommendations for improvement of organization’s personnel policies and practices. 
  • Provides specialized reports as requested
  • Oversees the HRIS system providing staff oversight and support; strategic direction on changes enhancements and integration with outside entities including, but not limited to, benefits providers and supplemental databases. 
  • Participates in the build of complex reporting and data imports and exports
  • Lead and participate in the employee education effort and information distribution for benefits, pension, and retirement both at during open-enrollment and throughout the year. 
  • Oversees ongoing distribution of pay and benefits information to staff and management
  • Assures HR staff education in compensation and benefits areas
  • Presents compensation and benefits related policies and practices for new managers on-boarding and maintains consultative relationships with management throughout organization as needed
  • Develops and maintains policies related to compensation and benefits, ensuring they are current, competitive, and legally-compliant. 
  • Advises on pay and benefits practice changes needed to maintain legal compliance with current and new legal requirements
  • As needed, provide hands on work for complex employee issues with leaves of absence, reasonable accommodation, the interactive process, and/or workers compensation. When team member is away, steps in to complete urgent work needed on a timely basis
  • Partner to ensure effective collaboration with payroll management, insurance consultants, benefits providers and system providers to ensure high-quality HR products and services and to implement new ideas
  • Lead the wellness program including participating as the HR chair of the wellness committee, partnering with the staff co-chair of the wellness committee, leading the wellness champion effort, and ensuring annual goals are met
  • As needed, provide hands on work for complex employee issues with leaves of absence, reasonable accommodation, interactive process, and/or workers compensation.  When team member is away, steps in to complete urgent work needed on a timely basis
  • Other duties are required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree; Master’s preferred in Business, Accounting, or other related field
  • 8 - 10 + years of progressive HR experience with at least 5 years focusing on benefits, compensation, wellness, HRIS management, leaves of absence, workers compensation at a strategic as well as operational level
  • Proven leadership, management, and supervisory skills of a group, with the ability to influence, motivate, make decisions and problem solve, develop others, and delegate task and responsibilities while ensuring team collaboration and effectiveness
  • Solid working knowledge of federal and California employment laws and requirements with proven understanding and skill in implementation of legal requirements
  • Strong, proven analytical skills, business acumen, and exemplary business writing skills, oral and written communication skills
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work under pressure with tough deadlines, including self-management including being highly organized and committed to getting timely and effective results
  • Strong negotiation, influence, networking, and communication skills
  • Proven resourcefulness to get the work done, including research to ensure accurate and ongoing information
  • Strong computer skills in spreadsheet, word processing and email applications; experience working with HRIS (MS Excel power user) (UltiPro experience preferred)
  • Proven experience with development and implementation of HR procedures and initiatives in a highly-diverse employee population
  • Knowledge and procedures for staff recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, and HRIS systems
  • Proven ability to conduct presentations in front of small and large groups on a variety of topics related to compensation, benefits, and wellness
