Community Engagement Coordinator - (SSVF-LA)

The SSVF Community Engagement Coordinator reports to the Program Manager and will assist in the execution of the SSVF grant according to contract and budget guidelines. This includes overseeing resources and coordinating the efforts of SSVF team members including VOALA sub-contractors, community partners, and ongoing outreach as it pertains to Veteran household population. The Community Engagement Coordinator will assist in assuring that all defined goals and objectives are met according to plan.


  • Maintain and build partnerships and coalitions with other community and government agencies
  • Supervise housing and outreach teams to ensure that community engagement aligns with program vision/mission
  • Oversee daily operations of program to include site visits of satellite offices
  • Supervise and facilitate work relating to the county “By-Name-List” of homeless veterans
  • Monitor sub-contractor work and ensure compliance with VOA and SSVF program standards
  • Coordinate and review training of SSVF staff to include:  new hire orientation, continuing education of case managers, and community partner presentations
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and maintaining systems and new initiatives for effective program management
  • Develop supporting forms and records
  • Make policy and procedural recommendations for improved program operations
  • Assist with program delivery and related activities
  • Coordinate with manager for effective program delivery
  • Provide direction and supervision to program staff in Program Manager’s absence
  • Interview and select program staff in coordination with Program Manager; maintain human resources records and administer VOALA HR policies
  • Assist monitor program expenses in accordance with program budget; coordinate with VOALA accounting department as needed
  • Assist Program Coordinator with duties as needed
  • Conduct crisis intervention as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Critical thinking and strategic planning skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Suite and internet usage
  • Able and willing to work flexible schedule
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Valid California driver’s license and insured automobile

Preferred Skill for this Position:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in supervisory position (preferred)
  • Understanding of community and outreach engagement strategies (preferred)
  • Experience working with HMIS or other data entry systems (preferred)
  • U.S. Veteran (highly preferred)
