Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. The position is primary responsible for processing all move-in and re-certification check requests for several programs, posting bank positive pay online based on signed checks issued, preparing monthly program check details and maintaining the file together with documents for all checks issued by payee/landlord.

Responsibilities:

The Bookkeeper:

  • Balance and maintain accurate ledgers using Quick Books
  • Review and check the completeness of the documents against the program file check list
  •  Cut checks based on approved house pockets
  •  Based on signed checks issued, post bank positive pay online
  •  Make copies of the checks before releasing
  •  For re-certification, scan checks then file together with the documents
  •  For move-in, scan the whole pocket then file together with the documents
  •  Mail checks for re-certification
  •  For move-in, checks are for pick up by the program representative
  •  Prepare monthly program check details

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience
  • Knowledge with data entry, record keeping and computer operation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and Quick Books
  •  Excellent Excel, math and organizational skills
     

Preferred for this Position:

  • Accounting Software
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or related field
  • Experience in not-for-profit organization and/or grant management preferred
  • Excellent Excel, math and organizational skills
