Technical Sales Representative

Business Development | Kitchener, Ontario, Canada | Full Time

Job Description

We’re one of Canada’s fastest-growing startups (number 23 to be exact!), located in the heart of Kitchener’s tech hub. We are also TechCrunch Disrupt Champions, one of the most innovative Kickstarter campaigns of all time, and one of Popular Science's inventions of the year.  Okay, we'll stop bragging now. :P 


Voltera designs, builds, and sells tools for hardware developers.  Our current product shrinks an entire circuit board manufacturing factory to a laptop-sized machine that sits right on their desk.  This cuts each iteration of their design process from weeks to days.  


It is currently used by Fortune 500 companies, small design studios, and academic institutions in over 60 countries.  They use it to build products that save lives, that explore space, that keep us entertained, that teach the next generation of engineers, and so much more.


Like many companies, our revenue was hit by the pandemic and lockdowns but we found ourselves still inundated with potential users from all around the world.  We’re also ramping up to knock 2021 out of the park and to release a new product.  While that’s exciting, we are realizing how bandwidth capped we are.  


We believe user experience begins when they first find our brand including every interaction with our sales team.  However, we’re stretched so thin that we’re not meeting our own standards for user experience.  That’s where you come in!


Your role: 

Joining our team will obviously involve many sales calls, plenty of emails, issuing quotes, and chasing procurement departments. More importantly however, it will require you to build a strong relationship with our users and really get to know and understand their engineering application and their needs as a user.


You will regularly be speaking to engineers, academics, representatives from the government and military, purchasing agents, and the occasional hobbyist.  No matter who we’re talking to , we always strive to be credible, reliable, relatable. 


We really try to avoid building a toxic sales culture.  We’re always willing to cover for each other, to share in our successes and our failures, and to try new things.  


Our sales and marketing department is still growing, so we're also looking for your advice on growth, sales optimizations and strategies, and general opinions on marketing content. 


About you: 

We're looking for someone with a great sales track record.  You will have dozens of active conversations that each require immediate responses that are still detailed and technical.  It takes a lot of attention to detail and a rigorously organized CRM to prevent anyone from slipping through the cracks.


You will also need fantastic written and oral communication skills.  There are a lot of technical specifications to convey, but as we already pointed out, we are trying to build relationships at the same time.  We’re hoping you have an outgoing personality who can match the positive and vivacious energy of our sales team.  


Finally, we’re looking for a self-starter who can work independently without continuous guidance/supervision.  Obviously, we’re always there to teach and empower you but as you get settled in we’re hoping to see the systems you put in place to make yourself successful and the balance you strike between asking for help and figuring things out yourself. 


Bonus points if you have worked in a technical sales role before, but if not, teaching people about our industry and the applications of the tools we build is a passion of ours. If you are a voracious learner, passionate about tech sales, and an extremely hard worker, we want you on our team.
