Mechatronics Engineer

Engineering | Kitchener, Ontario, Canada | Full Time

Job Description

About Us:

The Voltera V-One is a desktop circuit board printer that allows electronics developers to cut their prototyping time from months to minutes!

We are TechCrunch Disrupt Champions, one of the most innovative Kickstarter campaigns of all time, and one of the fastest growing startups in Canada.

Back in 2013 we began our mission to modernize manufacturing… to show people that the tools we use can be innovative, accessible, and elegant.  To do that, not only do we obsess over the material science aspect of additive manufacturing, but we place a relentless focus on the user experience (I dare you to find lab software that looks better than ours).

Our team is headquartered in Kitchener but we have V-Ones in 65 countries around the world. We're not done yet though... we're going bigger and that’s where you come in!

About the job:

We are looking for a talented mechatronics engineer to join our small R&D team. We are developing our new product - A bigger and smarter machine with a superior user experience. The ideal candidate will accelerate the research and development of our new product and help carry it from prototype into production.

Embedded/Electrical Experience:

  • Schematic design and layout  (Experience with circuit design tools like: Eagle, Kicad or Altium)
  • PCB assembly (hand soldering & reflow), bring up and debugging.
  • Experience with test fixture design and communication protocols (SPI, I2C, RS232)
  • Exposure to Raspberry Pi and other prototyping platforms.

Software Experience:

  • 3-7 years of programming experience
  • Strong Javascript, HTML, CSS background (React, Node.js, Electron)
  • Experience with computer vision systems, OpenCV and Python

Bonus points if:

  • Experience with electrical and safety certification (Radiated & Conducted Emissions, Radiated & Conducted Immunity, ESD, Surge, etc)
  • Knowledge of optics, 3D printers (additive manufacturing in general) and Solidworks.

About you:

You enjoy working on tough problems that keep you up at night.  The type of problems that require a solid understanding of mathematics, physics and statistics.  You enjoy crawling through datasheets and pushing out a proof of concept

You love working in a small team, where every line of code you write is going to directly impact our customers worldwide. You get the creative freedom to choose how to tackle tough problems.

You’re a flexible developer – you can design, you can solder,  you can code, you can test and you can ship. We don’t have a dedicated testing team, UX expert, graphics designer, or a build manager so you'll need to get good at all of these.

You’re interested in electronics, prototyping, and working with physical hardware. We’re building a tool for engineers after all.
