Voices for Children is a respected, local nonprofit organization focused on fulfilling our mission to advocate for the needs of children in foster care. Our mission is to transform the lives of abused children by providing them with CASAs. VFC believes that every child deserves a safe and permanent home, and to that end, our vision is to provide a CASA to every child in foster care who needs one, monitor every court file in the system, and advocate to improve the lives of Riverside and San Diego County’s foster children. ABOUT THE POSITION
Under the direction and guidance of the Real Word Program Management Team, the Real Word Consultant:
- Assists in the recruitment of Real Word members
- Coordinates two community activities for Real Word members annually
- Trains and mentors Real Word members
- Collaborates with the Recruitment and Marketing Teams to develop and implement community outreach efforts that promote the CASA Program, as well as the mission and vision of Voices for Children
- Speaks individually or with other Real Word members at the request of Voices for Children
- Provides paid consultation services at the request of Voices for Children
Real Word Consultants should be prepared to handle matters confidentially and with the strictest security when the need arises, whether the items are labeled confidential or not. This employee must work as a committed member of the Voices for Children team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Attends fundraising events, site visits, donor meetings, and or other community meetings to share lived experiences and benefits of a CASA
- Proactively builds relationships in the community
- Actively participate in consultation requests
- Attend active CASA events to build relationships with existing CASAs and youth
- Provide support and coordination in the planning and execution of two Real Word community member events annually
- Participate in the recruitment, training and development of Real Word members
- Create and maintain accurate records related to past, present, and prospective Real Word members
- Provide ongoing support/resources and mentorship to Real Word members
- Coordinate and attend Real Word Speaking events as needed
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Criteria
- Must maintain consistent communication with VFC
- Lived experience in dependency or juvenile justice system
- Must have been served by a CASA volunteer
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer literacy with proficiency in the use of email
- Clear / Good verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing
- Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends if needed
- Willing and able to travel if needed
- Willingness to learn
- Must live locally and be able to provide services regularly in the San Diego County VFC service area and occasionally in our Riverside County service area as needed
- Access to reliable transportation to occasionally attend events that may not be accessible via public transportation (e.g. bus, trolley).
- Must meet all screening requirements as set down in the California Rules of Court, Rule 5.655
Preferred Criteria
- Prior experience as Real Word Panelist
- Proficiency with MS Office Word, Excel
- Bilingual Skill - Spanish
COMPENSATION & WORK SCHEDULE
Part- time (< 20 hours per week)
Starting Pay Rate: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
This position is based out VFC’s San Diego County office. This position does allow for remote / hybrid work. Permission to work remotely is determined based on a variety of factors including but not limited to performance, operational demands, essential duties, and responsibilities.
This position is part-time (less than 20 hours per week). Work hours and schedule for this position will vary based on operational demand. Incumbent is expected to work evenings and weekends as needed. The VFC office is open for business during the following hours, except on holidays recognized by VFC: Monday through Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Coverage at the office by the program and office staff shall be according to such schedule as developed by the President & CEO or designee.

- Able to constantly sit for prolonged periods of time (up to 8 hours per day) if work is limited to remote work only or able to frequently sit for prolonged periods of time (up to 4 hours per day) if not limited to remote work.
- Able to constantly sit at a desk and view a computer screen for up to two hours at a time / 7 hours per day if work is limited to remote work or able to frequently sit at a desk and view a computer screen for up to two hours at a time / 4 hours per day if not limited to remote work.
- Able to consistently operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
- Able to consistently speak into and use a telephone for long periods of time.
- Able to regularly traverse a distance up to 1 mile per day.
- Able to regularly lift, carry and load items (e.g. boxes, recruitment materials) weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Able to regularly push / pull up to 50 lbs. on wheels or loaded on a cart / truck.
