Who You Are

We are looking for a highly experienced and proven leader to join our Product Design team as the head (Director) of UX Research, Strategy and Design organization (UX). In this role, you will have two primary responsibilities; determine the right experiences we must create to support our business needs and member and provider healthcare journeys then, ensure they are created in a way that exceeds their expectations and drives outcomes. To achieve this, you will draw on your deep experience and expertise in user experience design and mixed methods research to determine the right activities to conduct at the right time to deliver the stated business goals. You understand what it takes to develop, grow and mature a user experience operation across people, process, partnerships and tools. You are well versed in integrating your craft into an Agile delivery methodology and know how to leverage cross functional workshops to drive alignment and outcomes. You know when to leverage a lean approach or a more thorough HCD process. Most importantly, you know how to uncover customer key moments of truth and create innovative experiences grounded in that understanding and ultimately lead to deep brand and product loyalty.

Your Responsibilities

  • Deeply understanding the art and the science of behavior change delivered at internet scale

  • Develop a UX vision based on customer and business needs, coupled with a plan for evolutionary, iterative updates, that realize the larger vision over time and deliver measurable, near and long-term business value. 

  • Build and deliver a scalable UX practice including the people, process and tools required to support the organization now and into the future. 

  • Develop strong cross functional relationships with colleagues in Product Management, Engineering, Clinical and Medical, Product Marketing, Brand Marketing, Analytics and Service Operations to deliver experiences that support holistic business needs and points of view. 

  • Proactively identify, define and deliver high value UX enhancement opportunities that align with our key business strategies and objectives. 

  • Develop and execute research proposals and/or plans that outline the UX problem statement, research objectives, business goals, customer hypotheses, measures of success and final deliverables. 

  • Manage a flexible Human Centered Design process that adequately balances risk, business opportunity and customer impact with research and design efforts. 

  • Conduct strategy and idea-generation workshops with cross functional teams and executive leadership that enable the creation of a shared vision and alignment for customer experience and digital product strategies. 

  • Become the voice of our customer through a deep understanding of our customers motivations, behaviors, habits and unmet needs and become a trusted customer expert and advocate within the UX team and throughout the greater organization 

  • Lead the execution of final research and design deliverables such as personas, prioritized recommendations, customer journey maps, service blueprints, empathy maps, experience strategies and other design related deliverables. 

  • Communicate UX research findings and insights to cross-functional partners and executive leadership in a clear, concise, and compelling manner that is tailored to is tailored to the audience and drives action. 

  • Directly manage, coach and grow the UX team members skill sets and careers.

  • An eye for detail and obsession with craft

  • Strong sensibility for what makes an overall excellent consumer product experience, allied to a systems thinking mindset would be a strong plus

  • Ability to work through and effectively structure complex workflows with whiteboards, flow charts, wireframes and prototypes

  • Confidence in user testing tools (and the knowledge to translate the results)

  • 5-8 years professional experience designing user-friendly products for web and mobile

  • A portfolio that demonstrates UX design thinking and skills in a variety of projects including responsive web, native iOS and Android mobile applications

  • Experience conducting, synthesizing and applying design research

  • Strong visual awareness and sensibilities, ability to deliver mockups and create redlines and assets

  • Solid understanding of how design decisions impact scope and complexity of product development

  • Promote and evangelize best practices, design tooling, with a mentality for efficiency and simplicity

  • Worked with maintaining, adding to, or creating design systems

  • A master’s degree in a related field

  • Previous experience in behavior change and design
