Title: Executive Director, Health Economics

Location: Brisbane, California / Hybrid / Remote

Position Summary:

The Executive Director, Health Economics Outcomes Research will report to the EVP of Medical Affairs and Clinical Research and will be responsible for generating real world evidence and health economics comparative effectiveness research. Working with medical affairs and commercial market access teams and key personnel including The Chief Commercial and Chief Medical Officer. She/He is responsible for conducting research to assess the economic impact of healthcare interventions. The goal is to help healthcare organizations make informed decisions regarding resource allocation and reimbursement.

Key responsibilities include supporting the HEOR strategy and plan for each program, designing and executing HEOR studies, ensuring the generation of HEOR evidence addresses the needs of key stakeholders, and collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams to integrate health economics data into clinical studies and commercialization plans1.

The candidate is expected to engage with external partners to establish strong relationships and gather insights into research projects, provide strategic guidance on healthcare resource allocation and pricing strategies, and stay up to date with advancements in health economics methodologies and best practices.

The Executive Director of Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) is responsible for conducting research to assess the economic impact of healthcare interventions, with the goal of helping healthcare organizations make informed decisions regarding resource allocation and reimbursement. As the leader of Health Economics Outcomes Research at Vera, you will develop on-going professional relationships with healthcare decision makers, public and private payers and policy makers, as well as HEOR investigators. You will use various statistical and analytical methods to evaluate healthcare outcomes and costs and present your findings to internal and external stakeholders including healthcare providers, as well as hospital and managed care decision makers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the HEOR strategy and plan for each program at Vera, including design and execution of HEOR studies such as literature reviews, burden of illness analyses, budget impact models, patient-reported outcomes, and real-world evidence.
  • Ensure the generation of HEOR evidence addresses the needs and expectations of key stakeholders such as payers, health technology assessment agencies, health care providers, and patients.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders including medical affairs, marketing, and clinical teams to ensure relevant health economics data is integrated into clinical studies and commercialization plans.
  • Engage and collaborate with external partners including payers, health care providers, thought leaders, and decision-makers to establish and maintain strong relationships and partnerships and gather insights into research projects.
  • Provide strategic guidance to internal teams on healthcare resource allocation and pricing strategies.
  • Present research findings to internal and external stakeholders in a clear and concise manner using appropriate communication channels.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in health economics methodologies and best practices. Identify and interface with regional and national HEOR & RWE experts and organizations, profile data sources and organizations who conduct real world outcomes research as they relate to Vera’s products and therapeutic areas.
  • Add to the existing HEOR knowledge base of researchers, data sources and organizations who conduct real world outcomes research as they relate to Vera’s products and therapeutic areas to support value messages.
  • Develop and communicate HEOR data of varying levels of complexity to formulary and healthcare policy decision-makers and their expert influencers in compliance with company policies. Increase the knowledge and awareness of the value propositions of Vera’s potential future and marketed products allowing key healthcare and formulary professionals to make informed therapeutic decisions on behalf of patients and their providers.
  • Closely monitor national and regional changes in healthcare policy and payer environment, assess competitive data/gaps and communicate these back to the organization, to help Vera stay competitive and on the cutting edge of EBM issues and HEOR data for purposes of strategic and commercial planning.

Qualifications:

  • Prior Experience leading health economics, health outcomes, patient-reported outcomes, epidemiology, health policy, and related research methodologies in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Disease knowledge in nephrology, rare diseases, neurology, ophthalmology, and/or immunology drug development highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with an advanced degree in a related field (e.g PhD, DrPH, PharmD, MS)
  • Advanced written and interpersonal communication skills with an ability to present technical information clearly and simply.
  • Knowledge and experience in managed care and integrated delivery networks, formulary decision-making, and payment and access.

For this role, the anticipated base pay range begins at $244,000. The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geography, qualifications, skills, and experience.

At Vera, base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate will be eligible for an annual performance incentive bonus, new hire equity, and ongoing performance-based equity.
