Corporate Controller

About the Company and Role:

Vera Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for immunological and Inflammatory diseases that improve patients’ lives.  We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Corporate Controller to join a fast-paced and collaborative team.  The Corporate Controller is responsible for planning and managing all aspects of accounting as well as reporting activities ranging from the entry of transaction details to management of financial records.  Areas of responsibility include all accounting activities including Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accruals – including and specifically focusing on clinical drug trials - Financial Statement preparation, Audit and Tax Management, Insurance, and all relevant processes and related systems to support these activities.


  • Manages all of the Accounting & Finance related functions including but not limited to account analysis and  reconciliation, AP and fixed asset administration, month end close, monthly accrual entries as well as accurately tracking clinical trial activity completion overall to date and by site
  • Prepares monthly US GAAP financial statements
  • Develops monthly management reporting
  • Assists in preparing periodic board packages
  • Manages the year end audit  
  • Works closely with the CFO and Executive Team in a number of areas including forecasting, planning, and budgeting; cash management; new systems design and implementation; external financing; financial reporting and regulatory compliance for the Company’s anticipated future operations
  •  Skills to execute as well as effectively manage with Microsoft Excel, both computational and in graphical presentation
  • Communicates financial information in a clear and compelling manner to other employees converting accounting data into business information that is useful for decision-making as well as taking action
  • Reviews processes to create efficiencies, both in Accounting and throughout the Company to better integrate process steps, avoid duplication, and eliminate unnecessary activities
  • Experience with Accounting systems including QuickBooks, but more importantly use of and recommendation of a replacement to revise and document external processes
  • Involvement in activities beyond the normal scope of accounting, including purchasing and assisting with clinical trial management being a member of various ad hoc or standing teams formed to address specific issues
  •  Contributes to the team’s success while simultaneously attending to the cost-control and profitability interests of the Company


  • BS or higher degree (MBA) is required
  • Accounting degree and CPA is strongly desired with experience in the audit function of public accounting preferred
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant as well as progressive experience in the biotechnology space preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience with filing in compliance with SEC 1933 and 1934 Acts is mandatory
  • Extensive experience with accounting systems applications   
  • Experience in managing, mentoring and developing junior staff
  • Positive “can do” attitude; willing to do whatever it takes to help the department run smoothly and efficiently
  • Flexible self-starter to operate in a fast-pace start-up environment
  • Ability to develop out of the box solutions with limited infrastructure
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent oral and written communications
  • Innovative, analytical and extremely organized to drive projects thru to completion
