Corporate Safety & Compliance Coordinator

Job Description

Uniti Group Inc. ("Uniti") is searching for a Safety Coordinator who will be responsible for company-wide development and coordination of safety and health training programs. The Safety Coordinator will also ensure company-wide compliance with federal and state safety regulations, manage workers’ compensation, and will partner with the Human Resources team on safety initiatives. This position will require travel between Little Rock and the Uniti Fiber headquarters in Mobile, AL., as well as occasional travel to job sites, etc. 

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Identifies company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs and policies. Cultivates occupational safety and health as a priority of the organization. 

  • Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur. 

  • Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and workers’ compensation claims and follows up as necessary.

  • Administers all OSHA and any applicable state-based requirements related to injury and illness recordkeeping and reporting. 

  • Develops job hazard analysis (JHA) and implements action items for improvement. 

  • Creates and maintains database of safety certification and training requirements and partners with employees to meet and exceed all requirements. 

  • Maintains corporate safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).

  • Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters and specific training programs.

  • Travels to company locations and job sites as may be necessary or advisable to implement safety and health programs, training, inspections, and related functions.

  • Develops and leads a safety committee that will help implement and monitor the safety program.

  • Provides single source oversight for all workers’ compensation, general liability, and automobile claims; follows up with detail and assists with root cause analysis and preventative measures.

  • Conducts recurrent company-wide Driving Record Checks on employees driving company vehicles within company best standards.

  • Manages and maintains company-wide fleet information such as vehicle number, tag renewal, insurance renewal, and vehicle inspection.

  • Responds to and handles confidential and sensitive information with poise, tact, and diplomacy.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor degree in business administration, law degree, or other degree in a related field.

  • 3 – 5 years of proven experience in an occupational safety or similar position. 

  • Advanced experience with USDOT regulations is required.

  • Utility, construction, or telecommunications occupational safety experience is preferred. 

  • Familiarity with the Highway Safety Act of 1970 is preferred. 

  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office Tools.

  • Experience in complex, multi-variable businesses.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate a high volume of diverse assignments, effectively handle competing priorities, and maintain attention to detail. 

  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and listening skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment in making independent decisions with a high degree of tact and diplomacy.
