Job Description
Job Description: Scientist II, Discovery Science
Did you start in science because you wanted to find a discovery that would positively impact the world? Are you now tired of working on research that seems like it will never translate to the clinic? At twoXAR, we use artificial intelligence to discover lifesaving medicines at blazing speed. We are seeking a scientist to work on our Discovery Science team and contribute directly to our drug discovery programs. The ideal candidate is an experienced biomedical researcher with broad knowledge of pharmacology, cell biology, and omics who is interested in harnessing that knowledge towards discovering novel treatments for a wide diversity of diseases.
twoXAR is an artificial intelligence-driven drug discovery company
We leverage our computational platform to identify promising drug candidates, validate and de-risk them through preclinical studies, and progress remaining candidates to the clinic through industry and investor partnerships. We have established collaborations with leading biopharmaceutical companies and are now scaling the business and building our internal drug pipeline. twoXAR is venture-backed with financing from SoftBank Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz and has strong ties to Stanford University and MIT. Our management team and advisory board have decades of biopharmaceutical management experience, built software systems used by tens of millions of people, held VP and C-level positions at Fortune 100 companies, and have had previous startups end with successful strategic acquisitions.
Responsibilities include
-
Utilize our proprietary AI-driven software to rapidly build computational disease models. This includes:
inspecting and annotating disease-specific biomedical data (e.g. omics, EMR, and clinical trials data)
using our AI-augmented annotation processes to properly define our disease of interest
running and carefully evaluating the results of our analysis algorithms
Examine and prioritize predicted drug discovery hits identified by our proprietary, AI-platform in a range of diseases, including oncology, immunology, and fibrosis.
-
Perform extensive literature and data review of drug discovery hits:
investigate potential mechanisms specific to the disease of interest
compare MoAs to preclinically or clinically tested MoAs to evaluate novelty
evaluate DMPK data to verify a molecule’s suitability for preclinical testing
Effectively communicate (written and verbal) and defend research internally
Requirements
Understanding of pharmacology, cellular biology, and omics is required
Exquisite and demonstrated attention to detail is a must to be successful in this role
Prior experience in a pharmaceutical R&D environment is a very significant plus
No computational experience is necessary, though familiarity with big data and bioinformatics is a plus
Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new concepts
Full-time, on-site availability in Mountain View
Qualifications
PhD, MD, or PharmD (complete or late-stage candidate)
5+ years of independent biomedical research
Startup minded: high energy, low maintenance, self-starter that is comfortable in a fast-paced environment
Cultural fit: genuine, collaborative, innovative, data-driven, and goal-oriented
