Job Description: Portfolio Manager

At twoXAR, we use artificial intelligence to discover lifesaving drug treatments at blazing speed. We are seeking a Portfolio Manager who will drive decisions on which indications and therapeutic areas we should evaluate with our AI platform, how we make follow-on investments and when is the appropriate time to partner programs.  Keys to informing these decisions include articulating our strategic alternatives, balancing risk/opportunity in a portfolio context and making trade-offs between programs.  This position is based out of our headquarters in Mountain View, CA and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.


twoXAR is an artificial intelligence-driven drug discovery company

We leverage our computational platform to identify promising drug candidates, validate and de-risk them through preclinical studies, and progress remaining candidates to the clinic through industry and investor partnerships. We have established collaborations with leading biopharmaceutical companies and are now scaling the business and building our internal drug pipeline. twoXAR is venture-backed with financing from SoftBank Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz and has strong ties to Stanford University and MIT. Our management team and advisory board have decades of biopharmaceutical management experience, built software systems used by tens of millions of people, held VP and C-level positions at Fortune 100 companies, and have had previous startups end with successful strategic acquisitions.



  • Inform (and prompt) all portfolio decisions, from indication selection, follow on-investment, and partnering
  • Create preliminary financial modeling in disease selection decisions
  • Assess market opportunity of indications using data resources, clinical trial information, discussions with KOLs
  • Lead cross-functional team at these decision points to best inform decisions
  • Monitor and report on all programs
  • Ensure consistency across pipeline/program valuation inputs that are aligned across functions
  • Integrate and communicate the value, cost, and risk implications of financial models to support investment decisions and provide alternatives and options to recommendations
  • Conduct internal pipeline assessments, forecasting portfolio productivity, and throughput, and identifying potential pipeline gaps
  • Supports portfolio prioritization process by leveraging relevant measures of cost, risk, and value
  • Drive improvements and enhance consistency in twoXAR’s program valuation methods, policies, and tools, integrating more decision analysis methods and creative analytical approaches
  • Lead team level decision-making and escalations.
  • Collaborate across functions to develop business cases (e.g., new molecules, new geographies, new indications) for new opportunities
  • Ensure company resources (people, investment, time, energy) are aligned with prioritized opportunities
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of strategic planning processes, such as vision development and iteration, corporate goal setting, and long-range planning
  • Own, monitor, and analyze competitive intelligence information
  • Disseminate competitive intelligence information with the marketing team
  • Stay current on key publications and share findings with key stakeholders (e.g., scientific literature, analyst reports, regulatory landscape changes)
  • Support business development efforts to bolster sustainable growth across therapeutic areas, including new technologies, licensing partners, geographic partners
  • Support CEO on fundraising



  • Understand the drug discovery industry, including development phases, regulatory phases, required investment levels and intellectual property strategies  
  • Proficient in decision analysis and probabilistic modeling methods
  • Must be data-driven

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Preferred degrees in life sciences, chemistry or material science.
  • Must have advanced degree either Doctorate, Masters, or MBA from top tier school
  • Minimum 2+ years of industry experience in Biopharmaceutical or Pharmaceutical in strategic planning, internal consulting, portfolio management, business development or financial planning and analysis
