TurnKey Vacation Rentals ( is a leading, technology-enabled vacation rental management company started by former HomeAway and Hotwire executives.  We are based in Austin, TX and we manage over 2,500 properties in 50+ markets including Austin, Lake Tahoe, Park City, Palm Springs, and Nashville.  We are growing rapidly and our goal is to become the largest national firm, by offering homeowners advanced vacation rental management services, with higher revenues at lower cost.

The Controller will lead the accounting department and be responsible for period-end close, accounting operations (AP and AR), cash management, year-end audit and tax.  The Controller will ensure adequate internal controls are in place and financial statements are completed in compliance with US GAAP.  This position is mission critical within the organization and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

What you’ll do:

  • Supervise and develop a team of 6-8 highly motivated employees
  • Lead period-end close process; establish and coordinate schedules to ensure timely and accurate financial results are provided to management
  • Partner cross-functionally on new business initiatives and drive process improvements with a pro-active, practical and solution oriented approach
  • Lead the development, documentation and maintenance of process, technology and organizational improvements to strengthen internal controls, improve efficiency, accuracy and lower cost
  • Oversee the company’s GL accounting, AP, AR, payroll, tax, treasury, and compliance functions, establishing process and implementing new systems and/or controls
  • Work closely with our tax and compliance team to ensure rental properties are permitted and compliant and hotel/occupancy tax is remitted in a timely manner
  • For new markets, determine necessary business and tax licensing requirements and ensure they are obtained timely
  • Manage the annual audit of the company’s financial statements; oversee the preparation of audit schedules, provide supporting documentation and manage relationship with external audit firm
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance and provide recommendations and guidance to the business
  • Perform treasury function; manage bank accounts and cash flows, ensuring adherence to trust accounting guidelines applicable to property managers
  • Manage insurance coverages, claims and premiums
  • Maintain high standards of ethics, integrity and honesty

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited four-year university
  • CPA with start-up experience
  • 10+ years in a financial or accounting operations role
  • 3+ years of public accounting experience
  • Experience working across departments to implement new processes and improvement upon existing processes
  • Proven track record in identifying and implementing cost savings initiatives
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Natural curiosity, strong attention to detail and a bias toward action
  • Prior experience working at an online travel company preferable
  • Prior experience with Salesforce and Intacct Software desirable
