Position Description:

The Senior Engine Simulation Engineer will be a core member of the team developing advanced engine operational strategies at Tula. The engineer will work closely with control, calibration, and test engineers to develop strong analysis results for design of engine control strategies meeting challenging performance targets.

  • Develop and validate simulation models for engine and vehicle powertrains
  • Carefully create simulation and experimental test plans to support identification of key dynamic characteristics of engine and powertrain systems
  • Conduct detailed analysis of simulation and test results to draw strong conclusions about operating characteristics and to evaluate proposed algorithms with respect to stringent targets for fuel economy, emissions, driveability and NVH
  • Enhance analytical practices to improve model accuracy and/or increase execution speed
  • Coordinate closely with the Test and Algorithms teams, utilizing vendors and contractors as needed
  • Develop project plans and contribute to the generation of innovative ideas

Requirements:

  • MS in mechanical engineering with engines focus or equivalent technical background
  • Mature understanding of gasoline engine/powertrain design principles and R&D methodology
  • Strong analysis skills for predicting and verifying fuel efficiency, emissions, drivability and NVH
  • Demonstrated experience with CAE tools such as GT-Suite, WAVE, or BOOST, and associated model correlation and validation methodologies
  • Knowledge of engine and vehicle instrumentation, data acquisition and experiment design
  • Systematic approach toward engineering development
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to influence technical direction
  • Demonstrated team orientation and project management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment
