Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Board Certifications and Licensure Current/valid unrestricted license to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as issued by the State Board of Medical Education and Licensure or the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners Curriculum Vitae Verification of current professional CPR certificate
  • Must have DEA number
  • Valid Medicare/Medicaid ID number
  • Evidence of malpractice or applicable insurance.
  • Basic computer skills to include but not limited to Microsoft office.

Role Description:

Primary duties are in the Regional Forensic Psychiatric Center. This is professional medical work in the field of psychiatry. Position is responsible for the care and treatment in a Commonwealth facility for individuals with a mental or physical injury or illness, dysfunctional behavior and/or a developmental disability. The physician will be expected to fulfill his/her medical staff obligations by serving as member of critical medical staff committees when requested/asked to serve. Work is performed under general direction of the Chief Medical Officer. Psychiatric duties and services include:

  • Interviewing patients
  • Reviewing patients' records
  • Writing physician's orders
  • Writing progress notes
  • Meeting/speaking with families/significant others
  • Consultations with other physicians and professionals, psychiatric treatment team staff; other consultant functions which may arise in the performance of the contractor’s service
  • Providing direct treatment services
  • Holding treatment team meetings, Preparing assessments, reports and forms (discharge summaries, MA forms, SSI forms, etc.) in accordance with current regulations and survey standards as required on patients examined and consultations performed
  • Reviewing lab results/test results, Alerting staff of unusual circumstances, medication management, The psychiatrist is responsible for the provision of: quality services to each individual patient; admissions assessments/diagnosis; assurance that active treatment is occurring, compliance with TSH and RFPC policies/procedures, completion of documents as well as participation in activities related to court hearings/competency hearings, engage in ongoing performance improvement activities in accordance with current regulations and CMS. Duties and responsibilities are also governed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Human Services, Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. The Staff Psychiatrist will be expected to fulfill his/her medical staff obligations by serving as member of critical medical staff committees when requested/asked to serve. The Staff Psychiatrist may, as directed, provide evaluation in a county jail setting or other community setting.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Reads, writes, analyzes and interprets reports, policies, regulations, contracts, and PI/RM procedures as related to departmental function.
  • Reads, reviews and monitors clinical records for compliance with department, hospital, DHS and other external agency regulations.
  • Reviews through observation of services and written treatment plans, the effectiveness and appropriateness of treatment interventions.
  • Communication, both written and orally, with staff and supervisor reviews and evaluates training needs of all subordinates.
  • Investigates and analyzes problem situations in order to develop a plan of correction or draft policy/procedure for the hospital and/or clinical division.
  • Develops performance objectives, standards and factors for all subordinate staff and documents and communicates performance observations to same.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate (with staff, patients, and visitors), diagnose, analyze, interpret medical data and reports and to understand and follow policies, procedures, rules and directives
