Respiratory Therapist (722314)

Job Description

REQUIREMENTS

The services of a respiratory therapist are required for the following to be done at DSH:

  1. Works under the direction of the physician and assumes primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities including assessing and treating consumers who suffer from respiratory disorders.
  2. Set BiPAP and CPAP machines according to the prescribed settings.
  3. Properly fit new masks and insure proper fitting of masks currently in the possession of the consumers.
  4. Inspect the BiPAP and CPAP machines and associated equipment that are reported to be malfunctioning or non-functioning.
  5. Inspect all the BiPAP and CPAP machines quarterly.
  6. Recommend and/or coordinate repair services for the BiPAP and CPAP machines.
  7. Provide in-service training to the physicians, nurses (all shifts), and other identified personnel including, but not limited to, the operation of the machinery, settings, purpose of treatment, and trouble-shooting as needed.
  8. Provide education regarding the machinery to the consumers.
  9. Provide educational materials for the staff to utilize in providing consumer education on request.

All attempts will be made to ensure that service hours will be Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. but there may be rare occasions when, but only as a last resort, service may be required other than during these hours.

The hospital will notify the respiratory therapist when services are needed.

Back-up coverage will need to be provided when the respiratory therapist is not available (for example: vacation, illness, etc.).

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

All services shall be provided by fully qualified persons with appropriate education, training, and experience in accordance with prevailing standards.
