Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or osteopathy from a medical school approved or recognized by the Pennsylvania Medical Licensing Board or the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Licensing Board and completion of an approved U.S. residency training program in the allopathic medical specialties of family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, or certification in the osteopathic field of general practice. Annual successful completion of 50 hours of continuing medical education approved by the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association as appropriate, in the previous 12 months, and three (3) years' post-residency experience with substantial emphasis on primary care. Possession of a current license to practice medicine in Pennsylvania issued by the Pennsylvania Medical Licensing Board, or Osteopathic Medicine Licensing Board and possession of a current certificate to prescribe medication from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

Basic computer skills to include, but not limited, to Microsoft Office Products Ability to utilize a computer for order entry and/or prognosis notes.

II. CONTRACTOR SERVICES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The contractor/physician will provide on-call coverage to the entire campus of Torrance State Hospital (TSH) inclusive of the Regional Forensics Psychiatric Center (RFPC), Sexual Responsibility Treatment Program (SRTP) and the general patient population of the hospital (Civil). Call hours are 4pm-8am on weekdays (16 hour shift) and 8am-8am on weekend days (24 hour shift). Contractor/physician is expected to stay on on-site for the duration of the on-call hours. An on-call suite on-site is provided. The number of on -call shifts available is variable from month to month but the general expectation is to be available to work 3-6 on-call shifts monthly with a possible mix of weekdays and weekends. Working an entire weekend is possible. The monthly on-call schedule is generated the month prior and coordinated by TSH administration.

Hours worked will be verified by a signing in/out system at a designated, monitored location determined by hospital administration.

The Contractor will be required to maintain current certification in BLS Healthcare (CPR).

On-call duties include but are not limited to: management of psychiatric emergencies, orders for “stat” psychotropic medications; orders for physical holds; in person, immediate evaluation of patients requiring physical holds; reviewing patients' records, lab results, consultations and studies; writing medical orders; managing medical emergencies and facilitating transfer of patients to acute care hospitals for emergent and non-emergent medical treatment; providing direct active treatment services; meeting/speaking with families/significant others; consultations with other physicians and professionals. The contractor/physician will be expected to contact and apprise hospital administration of any situation that is extraordinary (e.g. patient or staff severe injury, death or any situation that potentially could result in medicolegal jeopardy). The contractor will be expected to give appropriate sign out report prior to the end of the on -call shift to the oncoming staff.
