Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Data Entry Clerk must have extensive experience using a personal computer with Microsoft Office applications and Internet Explorer.
  • At least 3 months of data entry experience, preferably in a health-related field working with sensitive data, is preferred but not required.
  • The successful candidate must have an Associate’s degree or better, be organized, detail-oriented, self-driven, and possess proficient keyboarding skills.
  • The applicant must possess and demonstrate a positive attitude, a willingness to work with others, and a professional work ethic.

Role Description:

This position will support the Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, the Bureau of Informatics and Information Technology, and the Bureau of Laboratories (BOL) through the entry of laboratory test results received via fax into Pennsylvania’s National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (PA-NEDSS) and assist with identifying facilities not complying with Pennsylvania disease reporting requirements.

The Data Entry Clerk will:

  • Undergo PA-NEDSS training, independently and under limited supervision;
  • Adhere to PA-NEDSS security protocols and protect confidential patient information;
  • Recognize and identify critical components of a laboratory test result;
  • Follow a standard operating procedure for PA-NEDSS data entry;
  • Develop proficiency using PA-NEDSS to enter high-quality patient and test result data;
  • Perform PA-NEDSS data entry in a timely manner;
  • Recognize potential data quality problems;
  • Communicate concerns or problems to supervisor and/or other staff;
  • Manage faxed paper laboratory reports in a responsible manner to protect patient confidentiality;
  • Maintain an Excel spreadsheet of laboratories or other health care facilities submitting faxed laboratory results;
  • Collaborate with Epidemiology, BOL, local health departments and Department field staff to identify and/or assist with potential reporting compliance or laboratory permit violations;
  • Provide updates to the supervisor;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
