IV. Technical Requirement
The dietician must provide evidence of being a Registered Dietician in good standing with the American Dietetic Association’s Commission on Dietetic Registration.
The dietician must provide evidence of being a Licensed Dietitian–Nutrition in good standing with the State of Pennsylvania.
The dietician must provide a copy of liability insurance documentation.
All licensing/certification and malpractice insurance must be maintained throughout the duration of the contract.
The dietician must provide evidence of completion of adequate and required continuing education needed to maintain dietitian registration and licensure.
The dietician must provide an equally qualified substitute dietitian in the event of a prolonged absence.
The dietician must complete all assigned work on time as required by the facility and as specified by the Director of Dietary Services.
The Chief Operating Officer will be notified of all preplanned absences .
V. Measures:
At least on a weekly basis, the dietician will communicate work issues and complete a written report that tracks the work completed. This report will be given to the Chief Operating Officer.
At least one week in advance, the dietician will discuss the following week’s schedule with the Chief Operating Officer, then provide the agreed upon written schedule.
Role Description:
The dietician must review resident medical records; complete eating dysphagia screens; complete Medicare charting including completion of Minimum Data Set (MDS) work and evaluations; complete nutritional assessments for all residents (initial, quarterly, annual and those required by Medicare); and recommend individualized treatment/care plans for any resident’s nutrition related diagnoses within prescribe time frame.
As needed, the dietician will attend interdisciplinary (team) meetings, residential meetings (e.g. resident care and resident council), and provide educational material to residents, their families and facility staff.
Work involves performance improvement programs and facility committee involvement.
Work includes the development of menus for regular and therapeutic diets as well as addressing the needs for tube feeding orders.
In reference to tube feedings, the dietician must make recommendations that include the name/type of tube feeding, the nutritional analysis of the tube feeding, the amount to be administered, the frequency of feedings as well as the amount and frequency of the water flush.
The dietician must make recommendations to physicians as needed in reference to resident diet orders including tube feedings.
The dietician must chart progress notes monthly on all residents who have physician orders for tube feedings and/or those who are being treated for pressure wounds.
The dietician must write progress notes in the medical records as needed.
If possible, the dietician must respond to all dietary consults on the same day as ordered. If not, the dietitian must consult the Chief Operating Officer who will determine the time line that a consultation will need to be completed.
The dietician is responsible to have current knowledge of dietetic practice, regulatory compliance and department’s policies and procedures.
The dietician must maintain records, reference library and educational materials.
The dietician will maintain computerized data base forms as needed used by the Dietary Department.
The dietician must be present in the dining rooms several times each week during meal service to observe residents at mealtimes to ensure that food preferences are correct and appropriate. Meals observed will include breakfast, lunch and supper.
