Winter/Spring Intern, Security Analytics for Connected Cars

Job Summary:

Toyota InfoTechnology Center U.S.A., Inc. (Toyota ITC) is looking for a highly self-motivated Ph.D. student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics field as a research intern. These connectivity of connected vehicles creates a variety of interfaces which become breeding grounds for security attacks, and thus security becomes a rising issue for automotive systems.

Objective:

The objective of this internship is to provide interns opportunities to

  • Study security concerns and potential security solutions to connected vehicles;
  • Develop mathematical and formal security analysis technology for layered architectures from in-vehicle components, networks, and gateways to external networks, infrastructures, and the cloud;
  • Apply the technology to certain applications of connected vehicles.

If time permits, academic publication based on the output of the internship will be considered.

Qualification:

  • Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Strong knowledge in security including threat modeling, protection approaches, and security analysis.
  • Strong knowledge in at least one of the following areas: distributed and real-time systems, cyber-physical and embedded systems, system design methodology, formal analysis/verification, and edge/cloud architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a highly motivated team environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to respond professionally in all types of situations.

Administrative Details:

  • Part-time or full-time internship, expected to start no later than mid-January, for a duration up to 3 months in Toyota ITC in Mountain View, CA.
  • Applicants *must* already have the ability/authorization to work in the USA (Toyota ITC will NOT provide VISA support).
