Intern,  NR-V2X and mmWAVe V2X research

Job Summary:

Toyota InfoTechnology Center, Network Division is looking for highly self-motivated Post-doc or PhD/MS student in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science in the area of vehicular communications technologies. 

This objective of this internship is to provide the intern with opportunities for research, development, and standardization of cutting-edge V2X communications for improving the safety and driving experiences. This position also requires  participation in and contribution to the research collaborations with universities and third parties to develop novel mmWave V2X communication protocols and algorithms, and also demonstrate the feasibility of the developed protocols and algorithms. 


The internship project will provide the intern with unique opportunities to: 

  • Perform the standardization of 5G NR-V2X communications by:
    • Survey latest communication technologies in 3GPP and IEEE
    • Propose, evaluate, and analyze enabling technologies for 5G NR-V2X communications (sidelink and uplink/downlink)

    • Prepare contribution papers for 5G NR-V2X standardization

    • Participate in 3GPP meetings and contribute to 5G NR-V2X standardization as needed

    • Prepare and report results 

  • Perform the research and development of mmWave V2X communications by:
    • Participating in and contribute to the projects on the research and development of mmWave V2X communications
    • Collaborate with collaboration partners and work with researchers in the Center to develop novel mmWave V2X communication technologies and demonstrate its feasibility through simulations and/or field experiments

    • Prepare and report results to ITC-JP and TMC

This internship will also provide opportunities to participate in creating international conference/journal papers and patents.


  • Post Doc or currently pursuing PhD/Masters Electrical Engineering or Computer Science in the area of vehicular communication technologies

  • Research and development experience of wireless communications in vehicular environments
  • Strong knowledge of mmWave communications and vehicular communications at PHY and MAC layers such as radio propagation, modulation, channel coding, beamforming, and channel access mechanism

  • Solid understanding of standardized communication technologies such as IEEE 802.11p/DSRC, IEEE 802.11ad, LTE, LTE-V2X, and 5G NR

  • Excellent coding skills in MATLAB

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to engage in general research activities such as defining problems and issues to be addressed, finding and using research data, and being able to make recommendations and findings in writing and presentations

  • Good planning, time management, decision-making and organizational skills, and ability to manage several tasks at once
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to respond professionally in all types of situations, maintain confidentiality and exercise tact and good judgment in an international work environment


Administrative Details:

  • Full-time (through the end of March 2019) internship starting in the fall at Toyota ITC's Mountain View, CA office.
