Fall / Winter Intern, System Development and System Integration

Job Summary:

Toyota InfoTechnology Center, Systems and Software Research Team is looking for highly self-motivated PhD/Master students in Computer Science or related fields to join us in this project. Communication between cars, edge, and cloud computing is expected to have a great impact on the next generation architecture of car systems that opens a new era of mobility. In other words, connected cars are emerging as a new foundation of evolution in the automotive industry.

This internship position involves developing an integrated verification/visualization system for the analysis of safe connected vehicles using formal system modeling and verification techniques. The intern will develop a prototype model of vehicle planner and controller in Unity 3D, and integrate it with other tools to validate and demonstrate the theory. The intern will also work with researchers to develop theory, and receive support / feedback from Toyota ITC along the way.


Assist with Contract Based Architecture for Connected Vehicles Project:

  • Develop research prototypes including vehicle planner and controller with Unity 3D;

  • Integrate verification tools into the simulation environment;

  • Demonstrate the system for safe connected vehicles in the context of connectivity.


  • Currently pursuing a MS or PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or mechanical engineering.

  • Excellent programming skills with the Unity 3D game engine is required.

  • Programming (Python, C++, C#, Java) experience is required. Experience in formal methods, including formal modeling languages and verification techniques (e.g., model checking, constraint solving, theorem proving) is preferable, but not required.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a highly motivated team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to deliver on challenging software development tasks.

  • Good planning, time management, decision-making and organizational skills, and ability to manage several tasks at once.

Administrative Details:

  • Part-time (up to 6 months) or full-time (up to 3 months) internship starting in the fall at Toyota ITC's Mountain View, CA office.

  • Applicants *must* already have the ability/authorization to work in the USA (Toyota ITC will NOT provide VISA support).
