Fall / Winter Intern, Stochastic Modeling of Connected Cars

Systems & Software Division | Mountain View, CA | Full Time, Part Time, and Internship

Job Description

Fall / Winter Intern, Stochastic Modeling of Connected Cars

Job Summary:

Communication between cars, edge, and cloud computing is expected to have a great impact on the next generation architecture of car systems that opens a new era of mobility. The capability to capture and predict driver intention and driving context with stochastic models and share them between cars could potentially improve the safety and performance of connected cars.

This internship position, Stochastic Modeling of Connected Cars, involves prototyping for driver intention and driving context models. The intern will study existing stochastic modeling techniques that are applicable for modeling driver intention as well as driving context, and develop protocol for sharing the models between cars. The intern will also study to use stochastic model checking to evaluate the safety and performance of the model sharing protocol.

Objective:

The objective of this internship is to provide interns with opportunities to:

  • Develop research prototypes of driver intention and driving context models from observed behaviors;

  • Develop research prototypes of model sharing protocol between connected cars;

  • Develop research prototypes to evaluate the safety of model sharing protocol;

  • Collaborate with a researcher on the writing of research papers.

Qualification:

Currently pursuing a MS or PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, or mechanical engineering.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to develop prototype software in C++, C#, Java, Matlab, etc.

  • Familiarity with Bayesian Network and Hidden Markov Models.

  • Experience with stochastic model inference and learning.

  • Experience with stochastic model checking tools (i.e. UPPAAL SMC, PRISM) is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a highly motivated team environment.

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to respond professionally in all types of situations.

Administrative Details:

  • Part-time (up to 6 months) or full-time (up to 3 months) internship starting in the fall at Toyota ITC's Mountain View, CA office.

  • Applicants *must* already have the ability/authorization to work in the USA (Toyota ITC will NOT provide VISA support).

  • To apply for an intern position, please submit your application along with the following materials:
