Fall / Winter Intern, Digital Twin of Connected Cars

Job Summary:

Communication between cars, edge, and cloud computing is expected to have a great impact on the next generation architecture of car systems that opens a new era of mobility. In other words, connected cars are emerging as a new foundation of evolution in the automotive industry.

This internship position, Digital Twin of Connected Cars, involves system prototyping for Digital Twins of connected cars. The intern will study existing Cloud services that are applicable to Digital Twin and develop Digital Twin prototype on Cloud. The intern will also study a method to visualize Digital Twin by using a game engine and develop its prototype.


The objective of this internship is to provide interns with opportunities to:

  • Develop research prototypes of Digital Twin by using Microsoft Azure;

  • Develop research prototypes to visualize Digital Twin by using Unity 3D;

  • Collaborate with a researcher on the writing of research papers.


Currently pursuing a MS or PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, or mechanical engineering.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to develop prototype software in C++, C#, Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.

  • Familiarity with Unity 3D game engine.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure.

  • Familiarity with MQTT is desirable, but not required.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a highly motivated team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to deliver on challenging software development tasks.

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to respond professionally in all types of situations.


Administrative Details:

  • Part-time (up to 6 months) or full-time (up to 3 months) internship starting in the fall at Toyota ITC's Mountain View, CA office.
