About This Role

The Threadless Product Team is looking for a Content Review Specialist who can support our marketing and compliance initiatives by reviewing the considerable intake of user-generated content (“UGC”) for issues relating to our content policy guidelines. The Specialist will continuously monitor the vast library of content for potential violations as well as support the Brand Team with their marketing and merchandising efforts to showcase new and upcoming designs and artists. 

In this role, you’ll be primarily responsible for the reporting and potential removal of UGC violating our policies on intellectual property, harmful or hate speech, and other breaches of our community’s trust and safety. You will provide detailed and concise reports to various internal and external stakeholders on violations and what actions you recommend, including outright user expulsion. You will work closely with the Artist Relations staff on the communication provided to users when removal is recommended. 

Our content continues to grow at a rapid pace and, using your in-depth understanding of our content library and keen eye for designs with great potential, you will prove to be an invaluable asset for our merchandising and marketing efforts. Recommending new and exciting artwork to feature in advertisements, the homepage, and social media will be another key focus. 

We are looking for someone who can help Threadless with their independent thinking and clear communication as well as their understanding of risk management as it relates to retailing UGC. While we’ve spent much time and effort on our content and user policies, our world is dynamic and requires constant vigilance by someone who cares about the trust and safety of our independent artists, our diverse community, our staff, and our customers. 

Responsibilities

  • Review daily UGC feed for potential violations

  • Monitor existing library and Artist Shop base for breaches of our policies 

  • Manage keyword list for content review. Tag appropriate designs for enhanced search results 

  • Review advertising content for potential violations of policy and/or IP risk 

  • Work closely with our Artist Relations team to take down violating designs and communicate with the Artist

  • Provide new and upcoming design and artist recommendations for merchandising opportunities.

  • Work closely with our vendor partners for content delivery to wholesale and retail partners 

  • Shape programs/projects going forward to mitigate our community’s exposure to content risk

  • Report on the state of our platform and make periodic recommendations for changes that will positively impact Threadless and our community’s risk

Requirements, Knowledge, and Experience

  • A strong and in-depth knowledge of popular culture, movies and television, gaming, art, and other various intellectual properties is a must

  • 3+ years experience in a content vetting/moderation role 

  • Experience working in a collaborative, online, and remote work environment (Google Workspace suite, Slack, Basecamp, etc.)

  • Expertise in Word and PowerPoint or similar applications (eg. Google Docs, Google Slides)

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of business users. Clear and concise written communication is key to being successful in this role 

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities in a positive and timely manner 

  • Knowledge of the “web-to-print” retail industry a major plus
