Senior Accountant, Supply Chain

Job Description

PURPOSE OF JOB

The position is responsible for all aspects of inventory, production, and fixed assets accounting including developing/maintaining cost systems, data analysis, reporting and other ad-hoc projects, as requested.  This role is also tasked with seeking ways to improve business processes, reduce costs and risks.  This role is based at the Redwood Road winery in Napa and reports to the Controller.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Grape Supply and Vineyard Accounting
    • Assisting with development of annual vineyard operations and grape supply budgets
    • Vineyard and grower grape cost tracking and reporting
    • Valuation/costing of grape production from own vineyards
    • Partner with vineyard operations team to ensure:
      • Accurate tracking of weigh tags
      • Maintenance of grape purchase contracts
      • Timely and accurate payments to grape growers
      • Preparation of annual grape crush reporting


  • Production and Inventory Accounting
    • Valuation and costing of bulk wine, finished goods, and other inventory
    • Manufacturing accounting for finished goods production
    • Accounting processes supporting purchase and/or sales of bulk wine inventory
    • Allocation/application of overhead costs to inventory
    • Coordinate and supervise physical inventory counts
    • Reconciling general ledger inventory balances to sub-ledger systems
    • Manage, maintain, and improve relevant aspects of information systems supporting inventory accounting and valuation

 

  • Financial Planning, Reporting & Analysis
    • Assisting with development of annual production budgets
    • Producing monthly financial reporting to production leadership
    • Participation in quarterly financial reviews of production departments
    • Provide relevant financial support for new product development (NPD)
    • Developing and implementing processes to monitor and report cost control initiatives
    • Preparation of inventory analyses in support of annual audit and tax returns


  • Capital and Fixed Asset Accounting
    • Routine maintenance of accurate fixed asset records and coordination of asset verification efforts
    • Ensure compliance with company capital expenditure and fixed asset policies and procedures
    • Record, report, and monitor capital spending, fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions
    • Prepare and file property tax returns
    • Preparation of fixed asset analyses in support of annual audit and tax returns


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related analytical discipline.  Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience; thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and common financial control practices.  Previous winery and/or consumer packaged goods (CPG) accounting experience is highly desirable, especially in cost accounting capacities.   

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  This position requires professional maturity, strong interpersonal and business partnering skills, high attention to detail, focused work ethic, the ability to work well in cross-functional teams, and ability to independently organize work and resolve challenges.   Advanced computer skills are a necessity, especially MS Excel.
