Human Resources Generalist (Part-Time)

Job Description

The Human Resources Generalist manages the day-to-day administration of the company’s human resources policies, procedures and programs and carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, recruitment, training and development, benefits administration, organizational development, compliance and reporting, and administrative support.

We need you to:

  • Employee Relations
    • Partners with management to communicate Human Resources policies, procedures, programs, and laws
    • Establishes a positive employer-employee relationship and promotes a high level of employee morale
    • Advises managers and supervisors about the steps in the corrective action system of the company and counsels managers on employment issues
    • Assists with the implementation of company safety and health programs
    • Maintains HR policy documents and handbooks that can be referred to by employees
  • Recruitment
    • Manages the recruitment process for exempt and nonexempt employees and interns using the standard recruiting and hiring practices and procedures necessary to recruit and hire a high-quality workforce
  • Training and Development
    • Provides necessary education and materials to managers and employees including workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports
    • Maintains mandated employee training records
    • Schedules new employee orientation and related training
  • Benefits Administration
    • Provides day-to-day benefits administration services. Assists employees with any claim issues
    • Acts as a liaison with broker to schedule benefit orientations and other benefit training
    • Administers the 401(k) plan and completes yearly compliance reporting
    • Administers disability and worker's compensation claims
    • Maintain benefits enrollment website
    • Establishes employee HSA account and manages employee/employer contributions
  • Organizational Development
    • Monitors the organization's culture so that it supports the attainment of the company's goals and promotes employee satisfaction
    • Assists with the company-wide programs including the wellness, training, environmental health and safety
    • Assists with employee communication and feedback through such avenues as company meetings, suggestion programs, employee satisfaction surveys, newsletters, employee focus groups, one-on-one meetings, and Intranet use
  • Compliance and Reporting
    • Complies with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Department of Labor, worker compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and so forth. Ensures minimal company exposure to lawsuits 
    • Performs record keeping and reporting functions, including file maintenance, incident/injury reporting and record keeping, ensuring compliance with mandatory training, reporting, and audits
  • General Administrative Support
    • Manages shareholder communication
    • Manages and maintains employee records
    • Manages employee recognition
    • Provides payroll processing backup support and partners with accounting to maintain the payroll database
    • Answers phones and front door as needed
    • Assists with office management tasks as needed  

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, or Organization Development desired
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification preferred, not required
  • Five years of progressive Human Resources experience
  • Remains current with relevant California and Federal regulations

Employment Status: Part-Time (20 hours/week)
