On average, U.S. students are with substitute teachers for 5% of the typical school year. That means our students have substitute teachers for more than six months of their K-12 school career. The problem? We're suffering from a national shortage of substitute teachers.
Swing Education is a tech startup based out of San Mateo, CA focused on tackling the substitute teacher shortage. We make it easy for great schools and quality subs to find each other. We help schools access more subs and offload tedious work (recruiting, screening, payroll, etc.) and we help subs find jobs, gain experience and build their professional network.

The Business Operations & Strategy Associate will contribute to the growth of Swing Education’s marketplace by developing and owning strategic analyses and business performance management tools that help identify and prioritize key opportunities for Swing. They will provide actionable business insights to help Swing drive towards profitable unit economics and scalable operations, effectively and efficiently, on both sides of its marketplace nationally.
An ideal candidate for this position is a fast learner, analytical, resourceful, detail oriented, and proactive. They must be flexible to work in a fast paced, highly collaborative, and innovative environment while working with all levels within the company. This position reports to the Manager of Business Operations & Strategy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Own and develop business performance management dashboards and tools for leadership team and key internal stakeholders to monitor the health of Swing’s marketplace
Create ad hoc models and analyses, independently, that generate actionable business insights and recommendations to inform strategy for cross functional teams
Analyze data to identify trends and patterns in key health metrics to identify and escalate areas off track from target and opportunities for growth
Work alongside Business Operations & Strategy Manager to maintain forecast model that informs real time demand and supply needs, as well as geographical growth priorities and projections
Work closely with demand/supply operations teams to make sure they have most efficient tools and processes to drive sustainable growth
Develop playbook for key marketplace levers (sub bonuses, pricing, etc.) to drive profitable unit economics
Maintain visibility of competitive landscape and assess implications on strategic planning and go to market efforts
Perform opportunity assessment and prioritization for new revenue opportunities; identify, price, and coordinate go to market strategy across teams for new offerings
Build trust and strong working relationships across the organization to deliver results
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS degree in quantitative or business field
2+ years work experience in consulting, data analytics, banking, or other quantitative or analytical role in tech and operations management
Analytical mindset with proven ability to understand and solve complex problems
Strong business analytical skills with experience in data analysis tools such as SQL and Microsoft Excel. Advanced proficiency in SQL and business intelligence/data visualization tools a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to collaborate effectively cross functionally
Curious, learning mindset coupled with excellent investigative skills
Proactive, entrepreneurial self starter, naturally takes ownership and looks for opportunities to drive business results in a fast paced, dynamic environment
