Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and driven Business Development Principal (BDP) to join our expanding team. This individual will focus on sourcing, qualifying, and converting high-net-worth individuals and families into long-term clients through multiple acquisition channels (COI and custodian referral partners, marketing initiatives, etc.). The ideal candidate brings a strong track record in financial services sales, demonstrates a high level of professionalism and client empathy, and thrives in both entrepreneurial and team-oriented environments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Build close ties and credibility with COI referral partners who have relationships with high-net-worth individuals and families
- Develop new referral channels for business development
- Properly qualify marketing-generated prospects and close opportunities, as appropriate
- Participate in Schwab Advisor Network, building relationships with Schwab Financial Consultants (FCs) and effectively manage referrals to optimize successful conversions
- Effectively represent Summitry’s investment strategies and financial planning services in prospect meetings, and provide valuable and trustworthy insights and portfolio-related advice tailored to the client’s unique financial goals
- Execute Summitry’s defined sales process with discipline, consistently working toward and achieving quarterly and annual business development targets
- Manage the transition of new clients to Summitry’s management services, setting clear expectations and ensuring a positive onboarding experience that supports long-term client retention
- Partner with the Financial Advisors of the Private Client Group to convey key information on client’s financial situation and objectives
- Become an integral part of the BD process, assist the team in continuous improvements, and seek personal and professional growth
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in advisory/retail investment sales with proven success and entrepreneurial drive
- Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced credentials such as CFP®, CFA®, or progress toward these designations are highly valued
- Highly organized; strong attention to detail and ability to effectively manage competing demands
- Proven ability to build rapport, uncover financial needs, and close business in a consultative, high-integrity sales environment
- Fluent in financial planning concepts and investment strategies, with the ability to clearly articulate RIA differentiation and firm value propositions through consultative sales
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts clearly, concisely, and in a manner that resonates with diverse audiences
- Able to work independently while contributing collaboratively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment
- Experience with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce), Microsoft Outlook/Teams, and virtual meeting tools (e.g., Zoom/Teams)
- Must have reliable transportation and flexibility to travel throughout the Bay Area to meet prospects and referral partners
Salary and Benefits
- The expected first-year base salary for this position is $150,000. This does not include commissions, which provide additional earning potential.
