POSITION:               Janitor

LOCATION:              Blackfoot, Idaho

Job Summary

The Janitor provides quality cleaning services and minor maintenance support to the facility, ensuring all work areas remain clean and in top condition.  The Janitor is responsible for daily cleaning and minor maintenance tasks, as well as identifying and addressing areas of the facility that need heavy cleaning or additional maintenance.  Janitors will be available for fluctuating shifts and on-call work schedules where appropriate in order to respond to cleaning and maintenance needs.  Janitors will demonstrate high levels of responsibility and accountability, working effectively and efficiently on assigned tasks and projects.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary

  • Ensure the interior and exterior of facility remains clean and in an orderly condition;
  • Gather and empty trash from all work areas;
  • Clean building floors as needed by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, or buffing;
  • Service, clean, sanitize, and supply all restrooms daily;
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors;
  • Dust furniture, walls, desks, and other horizontal surfaces within a seven foot height;
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment;
  • Maintain accurate inventory of cleaning supplies, paper products, chemicals, and cleaning equipment;
  • Perform general maintenance such as painting, snow removal, yard maintenance, etc
  • Perform minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems;
  • Perform routine quality checks to ensure proper facility cleanliness.

  • Work in a team environment with little or no supervision;
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment;
  • Fill in during team member absences;

  • Ability to work with and around cleaning chemicals and supplies;
  • Basic reading skills for Safety Data Sheets and hazardous waste information;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.;
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.


 Machines or Equipment Typically Operated

  • Janitorial equipment including vacuums, mops, buffing tools, brooms, hand tools, pressure washers, steam carpet cleaners, and other necessary equipment.
  • Other machines and equipment specific to departmental or facility needs.

 Typical Physical Requirements

  • Heavy work involving:

Typical Environmental Conditions

  • The worker is generally subject to inside environmental conditions typical of an office and a manufacturing environment, though certain tasks and projects may occur outside.  There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.  The environment includes a variety of physical conditions such a proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and working on scaffolding or other high places. The employee may be exposed to one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust mists, gases or poor ventilation. There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
