Director of Travel Insights, Analytics, and Reporting

As part of our efforts to grow Sojern’s Engineering organization, we are looking for a Director to lead and grow our outward-facing Travel Insights, Analytics, and Reporting team, focused on:
Providing thought-leadership reporting for the travel vertical, e.g., the Global Travel Insights report, the Modern Traveler’s Paths to Purchase report, and the Australia and New Zealand Travel Report (in collaboration with Google),
Assisting our clients and partners with actionable insights pertaining to their users, market share, and opportunities that will drive and shape their future marketing actions,
Contributing to the strategic direction to be taken regarding refining and extending our travel data trove,
Working with our product team to ideate, craft, and build out our future insights products for our clients, our partners, and the travel industry as a whole, and
Delivering on high-impact analytics projects that serve as proofs of concepts of ways in which we can better leverage our data and drive company value.
As one might expect, travel planning is complex and thus results in a wealth of diverse data that can be leveraged extensively both for actionable insights and compelling marketing. Rigorous analyses of travel data can result in better understanding of the complex trip planning process involving intertwined paths to purchase, realizations of what micro and macro factors drive and affect the travel industry, better understanding of the value of particular data sets, and a broad understanding of the travel marketplace. Such analyses, if packaged right, can lead to invaluable actionable insights that are indispensable to clients, partners, and the travel industry as a whole. Sojern is already leading the way in travel insights and we’re looking for a leader to help us further accelerate these efforts.
The Expertise We’re Looking For:
Experience in leading efforts and teams whose vision is to produce actionable insights that are based on rigorous analysis of complex and large data sets.
Experience in working across an organization, championing the collaboration of all stakeholders toward the common goal of maximizing the value delivered.
High-level of comfort communicating effectively across internal teams and with external stakeholders, e.g., clients, partners, and the broader travel industry.
Extensive hands-on expertise in data analytics, reporting, and software engineering technologies and processes often used to process, distill, and present large data sets.
Extensive experience working closely with product and engineering teams to build out insights POCs into full fledged client- or user-facing insights products.
Extensive experience building, managing, and growing highly-effective analytics teams.
The Skills You Bring:
12+ yrs of industry experience in analytics.
8+ yrs of experience leading and growing analytics teams.
Extensive experience with working with and unifying diverse data sets and diverse groups/stakeholders across an organization toward a common goal.
Extensive hands-on experience with data analytics and big data technologies, e.g., Excel, Tableau, R, Matlab, Python, SQL, Hadoop, Redshift/BigQuery/Snowflake, Druid
Extensive experience in data representation and ETL pipelines.
Advanced degree (Masters or Phd) in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field.
The Value You Deliver:
Serve as the liaison of the team throughout the organization, promoting and evangelizing the efforts of the team, and fostering/cultivating the relationships with other teams critical to the team’s mission, e.g., marketing, sales, ops, platform, data science.
Accelerate our efforts of packaging our extensive travel insights into products that guide our clients through their media planning efforts.
Maintain the focus on core initiatives, such as thought-leadership reporting, client and partner actionable insights, insights product evolution, and data need specification and evolution.
Through close collaboration with our product team, participate in the ideation, design, prototyping, and productization of actionable Insights reports that leverage our vast travel data to deliver best-in-class and scalable travel insights.
Take on an active role in our data-driven culture and work with other teams to develop the tools and processes needed to maximize the inherent value of our data.
