The Role:

The Sojern Accounting Team is looking  for a driven, dynamic Manager of Revenue Recognition Accounting to join our fast-growing travel marketing technology company. This position will report into the Controller based in Omaha. The revenue recognition team is directly engaged in the Company’s most critical and material transactions and will will be involved in helping guide the business through the coming years of extreme growth. Among other responsibilities, the Manager Revenue Recognition Accounting will interpret, present, and explain complex accounting issues to management and external auditors. Additionally, this position frequently collaborates with employees outside of the finance organization, so strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Finally, candidates should be energized by working in a fun, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.  This role is expected to be a Technical Accounting position.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day revenue cycle accounting.

  • Ensure revenue recognition is in accordance with company policy, as well as lead the ongoing implementation of ASC 606.

  • Manage, coach, and develop talent of revenue recognition team members.

  • Provide proper and proactive accounting guidance in support of deal terms:

    • Review deal terms and provide feedback to ensure risk is mitigated, work through accounting implications and confirm that their is the ability to operationally support business agreements.

    • Collaborate proactively with the sales organization, sales operations team, and legal department to ensure revenue transactions are recorded in accordance with company's revenue recognition policies.

    • Train sales, finance and operations team on revenue guidance and policies.

  • Lead  the monthly close and year-end close process to ensure all revenue activities, entries, reconciliations, and operations are completed accurately and within deadlines.

  • Assist with financial audits, including providing supporting documentation, preparing memos for significant and/or non-standard sales contracts, preparing financial disclosures, and communicating with external auditors.

  • Evaluate current revenue processes, accounting, systems, and procedures to identify areas for additional efficiencies and automation by leveraging technologies, including NetSuite, Salesforce, and Google BigQuery.

  • Develop, maintain, and update internal controls documentation for revenue recognition and support audits of internal controls.

 

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting and/or Finance or equivalent experience.

  • CPA strongly preferred.

  • 6 - 8 years of revenue based experience, either at Big 4 public accounting firm or public corporate experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with NetSuite desired.

  • Media or AdTech experience an asset.

  • Critical thinking, with a strategic approach to problem solving.

  • An extremely high sense of urgency and ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

  • Enjoyment of dynamic and fast-moving environment.

  • The ability to manage multiple competing priorities and to constantly re-prioritize.

  • Meticulous attention to details in a complex process.
