Enjoy rolling up your sleeves and digging through data to solve interesting problems? SmartPay is looking for a highly motivated, data-driven Risk Analyst to join our growing Risk & Analytics team. Our company provides innovative consumer financing solutions in both Retail and Online, where our team is integral to ensuring continued success. At a high level, we leverage data to manage underwriting risk, prevent fraud, and provide actionable insights across the organization. Key to our success is utilizing innovative analytical techniques to recognize opportunities and answer the questions that will facilitate the company’s growth moving forward. We primarily work with MySQL, MongoDB and R/Python (in addition to Excel and other ad-hoc tools). 

The Risk Analyst will have the opportunity to work closely with stakeholders across the business on a range of projects, from modeling the financial impact of price changes to determining the effect of a product change on consumer behavior. The ideal candidate will have superior analytical skills and the ability to tackle a project end-to-end: from asking the right questions, framing the problem, and gathering relevant data to drawing key insights and communicating them in an actionable manner. High intellectual curiosity and strategic thinking are a must. The right person will have the opportunity to grow by developing their skills, learning the business, and helping to shape the direction of our company. 


  • · Provide focused analysis of data attributes in order to understand patterns and offer insights that will aid in risk mitigation and product improvements 

  • · Collaborate with team members to help build and maintain key analytic program library with all data extraction methods, exploratory data analysis, underlying models, and model validation/implementation documentation 

  • · Proactively gather and analyze company data to provide critical insights surrounding portfolio performance at consumer, store, and channel levels 

  • · Perform various ad-hoc analyses relating to credit and fraud risk management initiatives 

  • · Data stewardship – monitor and improve upon existing data extraction techniques, identify and mitigate potential data integrity issues 

  • · Work with engineers to implement models and new features 

Desired Skills & Experience 

  • 2+ years of experience in an analytical, data-driven role 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Economics or related technical field 

  • Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced environment 

  • Ability to balance multiple projects while maintaining analytical rigor 

  • Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate results to business partners 

  • Understanding of statistical processes and comfort in working with data sets, both big and small 

  • Desired skills include SQL, R, Python, MongoDB, Excel 

  • A strong desire to innovate, collaborate, and have fun!
