Senior Financial Analyst

Finance/Accounting | Charlestown, MA | Full Time

Job Description

The Position is building out our FP&A team with finance professionals dedicated to the financial management of the overall Walmart footwear business. The Senior Financial Analyst will serve as the primary liaison between our business partners across, Walmart and Jet, as well as Finance and Accounting organization. This individual will report to the Director of FP&A to provide financial management and planning, support for decision making, analytical support to the business, while ensuring that the business delivers on all requirements set forth by the Finance, and Retail organization under the Fashion category.   


Upon coming on board you can expect to:

  • Assist in the company’s Annual Operating Plan (AOP) process 
  • Track actual performance against AOP, Forecast and Prior Years, and maintain a real-time forecast for the remainder of the fiscal year in coordination with business partners across Marketing, Merchandising, Retail and User Experience
  • Assist on tactical projects and analyses as needed to explain financial performance and support strategic initiatives
  • Partner with team members across Walmart and Jet to develop a horizontal view of Footwear across multiple sites
  • Assist in maintaining the financial impact of historical and planned activities of the department
  • Assist business partners with headcount planning and coordinate with central finance for compensation expense modeling
  • Track costs of consultants and temporary labor, and ensure invoices correctly reflect work performed at agreed upon rates
  • Review and approve (when necessary) department invoices and assist in the calculation of month-end expense accruals for accounting
  • Provide an “ear to the ground” for Finance to promote greater visibility into the financial impact of business initiatives as well as to facilitate timely cross-functional communication of new initiatives
  • Partner with the Analytics team to report on customer metrics, such as customer frequency, Lifetime Value, Repeat Rate and Retention. 
  • Proactively address downstream impacts to finance, accounting, tax, payments, insurance, and real-time financial reporting of department projects
  • Work with Director of FP&A and department business owners to ensure continuity of accurate real-time financial reporting (i.e. dashboards and scorecards)
  • Provide analytic support to help the department track and manage its performance through key performance indicators
  • Provide financial modeling support to model out and assess business development / capital investment opportunities
  • Support the contract approval process from a finance perspective to manage risk, identify pricing and terms opportunities, and ascertain the impact to the budget in coordination with the and Walmart Finance teams
  • Assist in identifying cost reduction opportunities and work with the accounting team to ensure timely tracking, billing and collection of cash flows generated through department specific vendor relationships


This role may be for you if you have:

  • 3+ years of relevant financial planning/business analytics
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting/finance or other analytical areas
  • Strong financial leadership skills
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to work with people
  • Ability to think big and dive deep; we’d like you to have a strong attention to detail with big picture orientation
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and dive deep when necessary
  • Demonstrated passion for working with data to solve complex problems
  • Structured and organized thinker who can solve problems with minimal direction
  • Strong project and process management skills
  • Ability to develop new processes as needed, from scratch
  • Ability to effectively complete multiple, time-sensitive projects with competing priorities under the pressure of deadlines with composure and minimal guidance
  • Practical experience using analytics to address business problems
  • Experience in e-commerce industry a plus. Self-starter; works independently and exhibits high degree of motivation, bias for action and a passion for innovation
