Job Description

The Vice President, Social Impact and Philanthropy Business Operations will report to the President, Global Impact and Philanthropy providing her with support in business operations, administration, and project management.  The right candidate should understand and embrace the mission of Sesame Workshop and the Social Impact and Philanthropy Group (SIP).  Should be a team player, willing to work both behind the scenes and center stage, have strong organizational skills, high emotional intelligence, and be capable of carrying out multiple projects while prioritizing tasks. This position will have 2 direct reports.


  • Business manager for SIP division. Assist SIP President with the development and close monitoring of annual budgets, personnel and resource plans, and strategic plan through proactive coordination with Strategy and Finance partners and SIP department heads.
  • Maintain and coordinate internal SIP processes to monitor and successfully execute on appx $50M of project budgets across six departments.  Track staff time allocations, cash (out of pocket) project expenditures, and overhead / indirect costs.  Coordinate with Finance to forecast budget/actual cost reports, and ensure senior management is aware of major takeaways.
  • Assist the SIP President with management and execution of strategic initiatives and planning.   Work with department heads to develop coordinated goals supporting the Sesame Workshop and SIP strategy. Actively monitor progress throughout each year.
  • Oversee Sesame Workshop’s Compliance function, ensuring policies and practices adhere to Federal and other Funder requirements and regulations.  Manage procurement, risk management, and security programs affecting US and International Social Impact projects and local offices.
  • Work with SIP team to lead development of reports and presentations, including to Board of Trustees, Sesame leadership and staff, and external partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with all levels of Workshop management. Serve as SIP point person for coordination among the Workshop’s divisions. Seek and ensure consistent communication, collaboration and follow up. Represent SIP President at Senior Management Group and SIP team meetings when President is not available.
  • Manage and execute special projects, as needed.


  • BA degree required, MBA desirable
  • 10+ years of related work experience ideally in nonprofit operations, finance, or business affairs in a non-profit, government or management consulting setting
  • 5+ years of management experience, including in a matrix organization
  • Proficiency with typical regulations around satisfying grant restrictions and conditional revenue accounting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate poise, organizational savvy and executive presence
  • Proactive problem solving skills and excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment, and discern when to act independently
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and changing priorities
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit organizations, policy issues and NGOs
  • Strategy or business development experience preferred, including building and analyzing business plans
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Internet Explorer, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and other software as needed.
