Job Description

Sesame Workshop is looking for a Senior Director / Vice President, U.S. Social Impact.  The U.S Social Impact Senior Director or VP is responsible for the addition and sustainability of several new communities that will implement the SSIC model. She/he will seek to establish local partnerships and a plan of delivery for communities to assure long-term implementation in a successful manner. The individual should have strong expertise in understanding how to integrate community service delivery models and resources at local level. In addition, she/he must demonstrate experience a leadership role in expanding programmatic models for enhance family engagement, especially within vulnerable communities.  As this initiative (as with all initiatives) she/he will require an understanding of nonprofit fundraising processes and proposal development.                                              

Skills: This position requires leadership and management skills along with an understanding on how to implement content and resource community service delivery models and developing national partnerships.  She/he should have project management expertise, expertise working in vulnerable communities and an understanding of family engagement strategies, budgeting, and timeline planning.  He/she should possess strong leadership and communication skills to efficiently manage partnerships and local community activities.  Must be a self-starter, have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and most importantly, be a team-player.

 

Summary of Duties:

  • Partner with SVP, U.S. Social Impact and the U.S. Social Impact Project Management team in visioning and long-term execution planning in selecting and delivering SSIC community engagement models and practices.
  • Establish and manage the implementation of SSIC delivery models in communities through local partnership and the development of implementation action-plans.
  • Document ways to assess the impact of implementation and sustainability activities in local communities that demonstrates increases in the use of SSIC resources by service providers to increase family engagement.    
  • Oversee logistics, timelines and budgets associated with working in SSIC communities.
  • Work collaboratively with the U.S. Social Impact content team how to integrate training, professional development, and technical assistance necessary to support local community implementation.
  • Facilitate local advisor or partnership meetings or advisories, establish methods for consistent communication while documenting partners’ needs and accomplishments.
  • Coordinate with Sesame Workshop teams to execute local community events, PR, social media, and other activities related to promoting and integrating SSIC models.  
  • Work with the Research and Strategy on how to assess SSIC impact in local communities and align with the developing SSIC strategy and business plan.  
  • Collaborate with the U.S. Philanthropic Development and Strategic Partnerships team to contribute to the development of proposals, PowerPoint decks, and presentations for potential corporate, philanthropic, major giving, and/or government funders. 
  • Support other U.S. Social Impact project managers in the execution of initiatives beyond SSIC when necessary. 
  • Externally represent Sesame Workshop and the various U.S. Social Impact initiatives at partnership or funder meetings, advisories, conference presentations or press events. 
  • Sustains and grows the cadre of local partnerships to assure the implementation and sustainability of SSIC.  
  • Support other U.S. Social Impact project managers in the execution of initiatives beyond SSIC as needed.    

 

Qualifications:

  • Higher education degree in nonprofit management, education, social services, or early childhood development.   
  • 8+ years nonprofit expertise in implementing educational, intervention and/or delivery services to improve community and/or family engagement at local or national levels.
  • Deep knowledge of community and family engagement models and practices servicing vulnerable communities.
  • Extensive project management skills including budgeting, timelines, model and initiative execution strategies and the ability to relay needs of projects to others.
  • Exceptional experience in working with fundraising professionals to fund initiatives and develop proposals and presentations. 
  • Possess a strong network of local or national partnerships and the ability to add new partners.
  • Leadership and problem-solving skills that bring individuals together with clear direction and expectations along with realistic goals and timelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, flexibility to adjust to various situations while also being able to multi-task. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of computer skills – Microsoft Office and knowledge of social media.
  • Ability to travel 20% to 25% of the time.

 

Department Overview

Sesame Workshop’s U.S. Social Impact department, in the division of Global Social Impact and Philanthropy develops and implements philanthropically funded community engagement initiatives that service our nation’s vulnerable children and families.  Based on fulfilling Sesame Workshop’s mission the department creates innovative initiatives and accompanying resources to enrich family engagement and build children’s development in early learning basics, health and well-being and resiliency skills to tackle very challenging situations. 

One key initiative is Sesame Street in Communities (SSIC) which offers bilingual (English and Spanish) resources nurturing meaningful connections between caregivers and parents of children from birth to before entering kindergarten through the various providers and organizations servicing children’s overall well-being and/or on handling traumatic experiences. These initiatives are implemented locally within communities and nationally through partnerships along with different professional development and technical assistance offerings.  Currently SSIC exists in three active communities across the nation. The initiative’s 5-year goals are to reach approximately 50 locations to implement SSIC impacting over 3.5 million children and their families along with hundreds of community service providers.  The resources are sustained through an ongoing integration of resources at sesamestreetincommunities.org.
