Job Description

Sesame Workshop is looking to hire a Senior Director Licensing - Soft Lines, & Strategic Partnerships  The Sr. Director is responsible for the effective management of Apparel, Footwear, Health & Beauty categories while collaborating with Senior Manager responsible for Accessories, Infant, Food, Customized categories; responsibilities encompass business and creative management, both internally and externally.  

Strategic Partnerships position includes a strong focus on new business outreach.  It will also include partnership management for existing sponsors.  This individual will lead the Music Publishing and Clip Licensing businesses.  

 

Please note: This position will provide short-term maternity coverage for 6 months. Remote till September then in office.

  

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR LICENSING: 

  • Manage all aspects of the licensing efforts and relationships related to the Apparel, Footwear, Health & Beauty categories for the United States; liaise with international counterparts on projects that cover multi-territories 
  • Communicates and collaborates with VP to ensure business decisions align with goals of the department and company 
  • Coordinate and attend regular business reviews, line reviews, marketing and product development meetings with licensees; Act as a brand ambassador for Sesame Workshop, sharing the latest updates including brand & show news, PR events, marketing initiatives and relevant product & retailer updates 
  • Build and maintain licensee relationships; Schedule, conduct, drive and recap recurring business updates 
  • Coordinate and gather quarterly forecasts from licensees and analyze them to help effectively manage a P&L for the categories 
  • Conduct gap analysis and create a strategy for new / growth categories of business 
  • Drive new business by identifying new licensing opportunities and prospecting, pitching and negotiating with potential partners and taking over new business discussions/negotiations that are in process 
  • Draft deal memos for renewals, new deals and modifications and work with the Legal department on contract development, process organization and execution 
  • Cross-department collaboration and liaising with Legal, Creative, Marketing, Sponsorship, Social Impact, PR and Finance departments  
  • Act as a key account representative with over 30 different external companies which include multiple CPG companies and industry leaders 
  • Ideate, develop and present decks, brand materials and pitches to internal and external teams 
  • Communicates key brand information to retail buyers to ensure that they are kept apprised of what is happening with the brand, that the brand is being maximized in their department and that they are happy with their vendor options 
  • Responsible for overseeing the development and marketing of quality product 
  • Oversee the product approval process.  Includes independent review & decision-making 
  • Oversee the work of, and collaborate with, the Senior Manager of Soflines and the Coordinator that supports the categories of business 

 

 STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS: 

  • Manage all aspects of the strategic partnership efforts and relationships related to the Sponsorship & Name & Likeness business for the United States; liaise with international counterparts on projects that cover multi-territories 
  • Communicates and collaborates with VP to ensure business decisions align with goals of the department and company 
  • Coordinate and attend regular business meetings with existing partners; Act as a brand ambassador for Sesame Workshop, sharing the latest updates including brand & show news, PR events, marketing initiatives and relevant updates 
  • Analyze the marketplace and focus on new business development  
  • Drive new business through prospecting, pitching and negotiating with potential partners 
  • Support the development of decks for outreach to new potential partners and ensure the brand deck is up to date with all necessary stats and figures 
  • Lead our music publishing business  
  • Lead our clip licensing business negotiations and administrative tasks 
  • Draft deal memos for renewals, new deals and modifications and work with the Legal department on contract development, process organization and execution 
  • Cross-department collaboration and liaising with Legal, Creative, Marketing, Production, Social Impact, PR and Finance departments  

  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  B.A/B.S College Degree preferred 
  • 8+ years of work experience preferred  
  • Character licensing management experience preferred 
  • Experience managing CPG or Fortune 500 brands a plus 
  • Proven ability to excel in an account management role with P&L management experience 
  • Understanding of the components of commodity business based on sales and gross margin profitability as well as manufacturing process and development 
  • Computer Proficient: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
